Karl Malden appeared in several films in the 1950s and 1960s, won an Oscar for his role in A Streetcar Named Desire in 1951, and was known for his role as Lt. Mike Stone in the television series The Streets of San Francisco, which aired from 1972 to 1977. He was also well-known as a pitchman for the American Express card - "Don't leave home without it."
