Although I'm not a fan of Karson and Kennedy's present show, I want to be fair. When Mix or for that matter any station is not performing Talent usually takes the first bullet before the real problem is revealed. After giving it some thought I've got to give them credit for reaching Boston. Maybe the problem isn't them. They are doing what they're told by Jay Beau Jones and the more I hear about that guy, his ego issues (or insecurities) and judgement I've got to believe they would be doing a lot better with a different PD at the helm. Ask yourself who was Landers last PD?
McKenna brought Zito over I think?
Speaking of mix. How are they doing in the ratings?

Mix is up slightly in cume and AQH%. If you look at Mix over a year They are static.
They have a decent cume but they don't seem to be converting for a better share. The listeners aren't staying.
I would look at:

#2 Music
#3 Imaging
#4 Jock Content
#5 Promotion
#6 Morale
All of which fall under Jay Beau Jones. My predication: The Kiss/Matty steamroller will keep on rolling.

Nope.
Obviously a thread full of people who don't know JayBeau or have never worked with him. He's intense, he's passionate, but he's GOOD. 6+ numbers don't mean ANYTHING. Get a hold of the breakdowns and he's done great things with Mix and WODS since he came from Citadel Worcester. He's by no means an easy guy to get along with and he eats, sleeps, and bleeds radio. But he's got what it takes to succeed.

JBJ's alleged passion is not a reasonable argument or excuse to treat people badly.
I am proud to say I am associated with, and friends of many pro's who really do "eat, sleep, and bleed radio" but they don't act like your Worcester friend reportedly does. They conduct themselves as adults.
You speak from your vantage point of someone who knows and is friends with JBJ and I quote "he's by no means is an easy guy to get along with" Through your own statement you have given credence to what people are saying about JBJ. So why isn't he an easy guy to get along with? And why is that OK in the 2011 workplace? Is that OK behavior at CBS? Is anyone in charge paying attention?
Even if only half of what I've heard is true, and I have heard this from at least a half a dozen people, it is beyond me why someone at CBS doesn't do something? At my company we would have sent him packing for Worcester at the first sign of this behavior.
ReelyReal like you I too am loyal to my friends and because of that loyalty I can promise you that I will continue to encourage my spouse (agency president) and all of our friends to not place buys at that cluster until this is addressed. I have said all I can say on this board with the hopes that someone would look into this. FYI CBS The grownups are now voting with our dollars. We want you to know this situation is not ok. Can you hear us now... CBS?
I never chime in on these boards, but this one's worth it - and Ill attach my name. JayBeau is one of the best PDs I've ever worked with. Forward thinker, always open to new ideas, creative. And I'm surprised to hear anyone say he's hard to work with. It was totally the opposite for me. Super guy, always took time even when he was swamped - and who isn't that's still employed in this business?
I won't even try to dissect the ratings. I think the format itself is a tough one to fight with when you're going up against an iconic heritage station like Kiss.
