Karson & Kennedy on Mix 98.5

This morning was the first "official" show. Any thoughts?

I liked them, but think it might be awhile before they gain some traction.

Matty's not shaking in his boots, however.

Tuned in for a bit as well as watched some of their youtube stuff from the Memphis station.

Unfortunately for them, I can't see it working here. They don't sound local, and I can picture a "Matty Migration".

First to go will be Kennedy, then "Karson with a K" will stick around for a few months before Gregg Daniels finally gets the slot.

Anyone know where Lander is these days? Taking the PM drive over for Paul Perry?

BM, part of your theory has a small flaw. Kennedy and I are a package deal (contractually) so if one of us leaves, the other will leave at the same time. Of course, that could change. ;D

if you attach yourself to anyone named Kennedy in Massachusetts you will always be fine. good luck here in Boston k with a k

I tuned in for a little bit today; no they are not John Lander who I was a big fan of but they are not bad, much better then some of the other options on in the morning.

I am sure once they get used to Boston they will fit right in.

It is funny that someone said they don’t sound like they are from here, I thought they sounded somewhat like a local.

Just 3 days on the air, go easy on them.

How many Boston radio legends actually grew up or started their career in Boston?

Romeo
Dan O'Brien
Morgan White

That's being very generous with the word "legend"!

That being said, Lady D, Karen Blake, Dan Justin, David O'Leary, George Knight, June Knight, Hank Morse, Jimmy DelPonte, and Steve Kelly are are local folks who did good.

I think part of the resistance is that A LOT of listeners did not realize Lander was gone when they tuned in on Monday. They assumed he was on vacation. It should have been handled better. The new show was never mentioned on Mix to my knowledge. That was unfair to K&K.

That's a good point Mella. Not sure what time Lander said farewell on his final shift, but I'm sure many did not know. I'm thinking a lot of people may have felt it was time though. I think he would do well in afternoon drive on 'ROR. Too bad about Paul Perry as well, he's a great talent.

I have mentioned this before; Mix has seemed very over produced the last few years. Sometimes I would even wonder if Lander was in the studio or broadcasting from home, or even recorded a day in advance. The Nutcracker bits were frequently repeated / years old, and segues were always a bit too smooth.

I am not a fan of the music, but Matty puts on a great -seemingly- spontaneous show. Most of the show is based on making fun of Billy, and is quite humorous. Not that Bill would leave, especially with new 5 yr deal, but I think he's the only one that could compete with Matty in this town.

I hope Matt makes the jump to talk before retirement.

I am a Matty in the Morning fan have been for 15+ years but was bopping through the stations and heard a bit of them and didn't care for it at all. There seems to be something missing.

I think Greg Daniels would do a great job I love him and Sue Brady in the afternoons :) I tune in on my commute home. Too bad the station didn't allow other DJ's to try out the morning format and see what the listeners liked before making such a huge change.

Personally I could not stand Lander just didn't like his style I liked Kelly Malone and Alicia they were fun to listen too and I can relate to them.

Well see what happens - I still think Matty is #1!!!

I would make my usual "so how long have you worked for (fill in the blank)" joke here, but we all know that Kiss 108 doesn't have employees anymore.

It's been a few weeks, and I think Mix is on the right track. Karson, you and Kennedy are sounding good. Is Kelly Malone still at Mix? I think the folks that are bitter about Lander's exit would be more open to change if she was still around. She's good on the air, and quite cute as well ;)

Thanks BM but obviously, we still have a long road ahead. As for Kelly, we were recently introduced on Facebook and I believe a new TV show is in her near future. Kelly mentioned that she had been working toward a career in TV for sometime and this seemed to be a blessing is disguise, I guess.

K~
