Katie Couric Ties Ratings Low

Gee no big surprise here. From day one she stunk on the air. If CBS had been smart that company should have hired Lester Holt away from NBC. It will be interesting to see if CBS renews her contract when it expires.

Meanwhile ABC continues to be in second place only because that network still believes that Diane (I have to comment after every story) Sawyer can actually pass herself off as a journalist. It's time to put the old gal out to pasture and give the anchor job to David Muir or George Stepontopofus ;D

Speaking of Couric's contract, when does the current one expire; anyone know?

There has been a great deal of discussion regarding Couric's future is with CBS. If the ratings continue to lag behind ABC and NBC, then CBS network executives could just not renew her contract. Or she could just quit on her own and try to land a job at another network.

I just don't see her returning to NBC and "The Today Show" as some people have speculated she would do.

Regarding CBS, anyone heard talk about a possible merger between that network at CNN?

I'm sorry, but Katie's news is so slanted to the left that you have to put a book under the left side of your t.v. to level the picture. Left, Liberal, garbage. That is why nobody is watching. The spin is so obvious you can't take her or CBS serious.

Could you imagine if she join ABC in some capacity? We could then call her the John Madden of network news.

Boom!

Isn't that Kevin Newman guy up in Canada going to be available soon? CBS could hire him.

Or they could just give the job to Erica Hill. I'd start watching if that happened. :)

Actually, I just thought of the BEST choice: Chuck Roberts. Seriously.

"This is the CBS Evening News with Chuck Roberts."

Very thin ice! Very thin ice! Sorry...I was thinking of the gang from Autotune The News! They love to use Katie all the time! :D

This has got to go down as one of the worst decisions in network news history. If she has lots of time left on her contract, ban her to the CBS Morning News. That show going nowhere.

IIRC, Kevin Newman anchored ABC's early-morning newscast
several years ago. Does anyone think he'd come back to the
States?

Too bad Peter Mansbridge turned down an offer from CBS a
few years ago. He'd really be good; his only problem would be
that few people in this country know who he is unless they're
in range of the CBC or used to watch Newsworld International.

This is what happens when you have alligator lizards editorializing instead of strictly delivering the news.

I fully expect one of three things to happen in the next year:

1. Anderson Cooper joins Katie on the CBS Evening News and/or Cooper takes it over completely.
2. CBS gives this half-hour back to the affiliates, but maintains network commercial avails.
3. Some sort of joint venture between CNN and CBS during this time period.

The current system can't sustain itself. (On the other hand, if denture commercials and 65+ ads continue to be a revenue producer, I strike everything mentioned above.) ::)
