Katie Couric To Join Talk Show Fray?

That's interesting. I'd imagine WFTV (the ABC station in Mickey Mouse's backyard) was offered the show first, but turned it down for whatever reason. And now WESH, per the article, "doesn’t know where it will schedule" Couric's show.

If Katie's show is a 3pm Eastern show, it would have to be 3pm or 4pm tape delayed. Looking at WESH's schedule, I see they have Anderson at 2, Ellen at 3, and News at 4. Either Ellen moves to 2pm or 4pm, or Katie is at 4pm.

WESH might have been offered the show before WFTV, considering that Hearst owns WESH, and Hearst is more allied to Disney/ABC (co-owner of ESPN, Lifetime, helps) than Cox is to ABC. Boston, where ABC affiliate owned by Hearst exists, also still trumps Atlanta in the DMA rank, where ABC affiliate owned by Cox exists.

My guess is that Anderson doesn't make it to a second season, Ellen moves to 2, Katie gets 3, and WESH keeps its 4 o'clock news. Of course, that's also dependent on whether Katie does her show live at 3; if she tapes it WESH could put her at 2 and keep Ellen where she is.

On the Atlanta board there's a mention of WSB's picking up Katie; the poster assumes that ABC's "The Chew" and the upcoming "The Revolution" stay at 1 and 2, respectively, and "General Hospital" either moves to an overnight slot or gets canceled altogether.

ABC announced cancellation of AMC and OLTL last April 2011, with AMC ending in late September and OLTL ending in late January of this year. For GH, if they want to cancel it or announce a schedule change, one would think it would have to be announced soon.

I suppose in April, ABC will decide for a Regis replacement. May would work too but would be somewhat late.

You know that if Katie Couric replaces GH, I will NOT watch her show in protest. Since I call this era The Soap Purge (a la CBS' Rural Purge of 1971) because of recent soap cancellations.

If Couric replaces GH, I hope that the ghosts of John Beradino and Emily McLaughlin will haunt her for the rest of her life. LOL!

^What if the program you would protest is not "Katie", but a program of interest of you?
