KATM, KSFM and 32 other radio stations

Name 34 radio stations that have a higher 12+ Fall 2005 share in San Francisco than Energy 92.7! But I'm sure they're doing swell in their target demo.

That is pretty interesting considering KATM really only serves the far easy bay communities. Livermore, Pittsburg, Antioch get relatively good reception most of the time. Once in a while Concord gets a decent signal as well. Energy 92.7 is pretty much garbage that should be replaced with something worthwhile--because of their weak signal, the format should be something catered toward San Francisco such as a Chinese format (the first of its kind on the FM in the bay area).

As a former bay area resident, I probably have 10 times the knowledge of bay area radio that you do sir. Since KJAZ back in the 80's, 92.7 in San Francisco has pretty much failed everything its set out to do. This current dance/CHR format will likely be no exception. 92.7 has always been a difficult sell mainly because of its limited signal covering only San Francisco and Oakland clearly. I would LOVE to see another Jazz type station at this frequency--perhaps a "fine arts" type station similar to WFMT in Chicago.

From what I know about the KJAZ's history - Jazz (REAL jazz, that is) was never an easy sell in the Bay Area. KJAZ's owner (I believe his name was Pat Henry) was a true believer, not a good businessman from what I've heard, and never really cared about profits anyway. Besides, KCSM has the format covered really well now, you don't have to listen to commercials, and they run fewer pledge campaigns that any other public radio or TV station.
