I find it interesting that you bring up "Rock You Like A Hurricane," because in 2002 shortly after Hurricane Lili came through the Lafayette, LA area, 93.7 KOOJ (now KRDJ) dropped its Oldies format and began stunting towards a flip to mainstream rock. Two songs were alternated on air: "Son of a Bitch" by AC/DC and the Scorpions' "Rock You Like A Hurricane."

Even though the stunt was conceived before the news that Lili - which turned out to be quite destructive for the entire Acadiana area, on par with Andrew in 1992 - was on its way, it still appeared to be in bad taste, at least to me.

Not that I think that the song should have been banned, I just think that the timing was awful.

Better skip "New Orleans Ladies" by Louisiana's LeRoux
or "Down at the Twist & Shout" by Mary Chapin Carpenter.
 
And...

....you might want to stop playing Tom Petty's "Refugee", for a while as well as Melissa Etheridge's new remake.

Well, I guess we won't see Black Rock's "Bluewater" crossing over from Dance anytime soon. BTW WDVW(Diva 92.3)/New Orleans has that track on its playlist.

The Citadel "Divas" (WDVW/New Orleans and WCDV/Baton Rouge), along with all the Citadel/Baton Rouge cluster are simulcasting WJBO/Baton Rouge. The only Citadel/NOLA stations that are off the air is Adult R&B KMEZ and Modern Rocker KKND(106.7 The End).

Actually, there's one nobody's thought of. You know, Melissa Ethridge just got airplay of her new song, the remake of Tom Petty's "Refugee". Great song, both versions... well.. no more Refugee being played. It was pulled off the playlist Tuesday here at FM 100... for obvious reasons - we are home to 12,000 'refugees' from New Orleans at present.

BTW- that NEVER HAPPENED. Falls under the "urban myth" heading. One PD in one market suggested it in an Email and Randy Michaels immediately and emphatically shot it down.

Not true. It remains a huge AC hit around the country.

But, to suggest banning it is ridiculous. Another case of radio over-think.
