Katrina's Effects on DX

Any good catches as Katrina affects the atmosphere? (Does it have much effect on our DX chances tonight??)

Here in Saskatchewan, Canada, am getting Radio Disney from Denver @ 1690, a spanish broadcast on 1540 (was thinking it was CHIN Toronto, but the schedule doesn't match up) as a couple of newer catches... might try some TV later tonight...

With WWL 870 off the air, I'm hearing Cuba's 10kW signal with the ticking clock. It's slowly fading in and out amongst Katrina's interference, usually topping out with an s9 on the signal meter at its peaks. I'm in Columbus, GA.

That would be Radio Reloj. After WWL went off, I was hearing it with another unidentified Spanish language station here in Longview, TX.

I wouldn't have thought the weather would have much effect on MW frequencies. It generally reacts to solar activity. Certainly VHF would be affected & the Hurricane may even generate Es.

As I understand it, the AMs in the path of the hurricane are allowed to stay at daytime power/patterns. I have also logged WTIX in MO this evening...

AMs are not allowd to air commercials if they are on day power/pattern or a daytimer on at night due to emegency. Whoever reported 1060 in New Orleans on high power running an informerical caught them in violation.<P ID="signature">______________

Katrina really didn't enhanced the MW frequencies. When WWL off the air, rare DX'ing opportunities on 870 opened up.
