KATY PERRY BREAKS MJ'S RECORD?

At least according to Rick Dees on his Top 40 coundown, anyway. On this weekend's show, Katy Perry "Wide Awake" hit #1, and Rick mentioned that since the song was from the Deluxe Edition of her "Teenage Dream" album, she surpassed Michael Jackson's record of most #1s from an album ("Bad").

Does anyone else think MJ's record still stands because she essentially re-released an album with additional tracks that didn't originally appear? I think her performance deserves an asterisk in the record books.

Regardless, it is still a major accomplishment for Ms Perry. She has hit #1 seven times within a span of about 27 months- so its nothing to cough at.

I agree. It seems like most popular artists these days are releasing albums twice (once as the original and then as a deluxe edition). I know why they do it, but it's very annoying.

By the way, has anyone seen Katy Perry's documentary film Part of Me? I saw it last weekend and enjoyed it. (But then again, I'm a pretty big fan of hers.) ;)

I think Rick Dees was speaking in terms of radio airplay #1s for CHR, as "Wide Awake" only hit #2 on Billboard and "Part of Me" peaked at #3 on radio airplay alone, even though it was a #1 Billboard hit.

Mediabase reports for radio airplay spins and they have Wide Awake as the current #1 CHR hit.
