KATY PERRY "California Gurls" (Violator Remix)

I'm just lovin' Katy Perry's new single "TEENAGE DREAM" !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98WtmW-lfeE

"Teenage Dream" is what I'd call a perfectly produced pop/dance song.

I know the single for "California Gurls" has sold much and charted high. But.... I believe this is mainly due to the over-the-top video. And that's okay.... but it's "Teeanage Dream" that I keep listening to over and over. I'm older, of course, and if, I was a teen, or in my 20's, then yes, I would be fanning all over "California Gurls" because of the outrageous over-the-top video.

"Teenage Dream" gets My VOTE as the Perfect Katy Perry SONG !

I admit from the very first time I heard "teenage dream" I immediately thought it was better than CG. I tried my best to accept the non chorus vocals on CG, but now I give up. I've seen other people on this board complain about CG, but I don't think it's necessarily as bad as many are making it out to be. It's alright with a few exceptions to vocals and the 4th grade level poetic wording arrangement skill. I've yet to hear a remix of CG that I like more than the original - that I'm not overly crazy about to begin with.

Listen to my station, I have lots of versions of CG and Teenage dream.

I wasn't aware of too many remixes because every station I listen to seems to love to only use the original. I did hear some remixes this past weekend since KKFR and KZON were getting a little "dance busy" on Saturday Night, but other than that I haven't heard anything but the Violator Remix. I guess it's also partly because I never researched it either. I was a bit disappointed with how non dance KZZP was on Saturday. Any little bit they did play was extremely mainstream. Normally it's KZZP that beats KKFR and KZON in dance sound on Saturdays, but... it really doesn't make a difference now because ever since I've checked out 94.5 The Vibe, it's a little harder to appreciate mainstream hit radio dance since the solidness of The Vibe really puts many of the things I used to get excited about on all other stations to shame.

Allow me to rant now: If Katy Perry didn't feel she had enough talent to make this a big hit withOUT snoop dog, then she doesnt deserve to have a recording contract. I think her history proves otherwise so why even bother w/ SNoop? I just don't get it. There is a REASON we have an URBAN CHART. Urban acts like snoop should rap all they want on the URBAN chart, and leave the pop chart for Pop songs!!! I'm obviously old school, the occasional rap hit cracking the top40 is ok, just as an occasional country song or heavy metal song, but today we have 50% rap on the top 40 and that just plain sucks. Thus the reason you have so many splintered CHR/HotAC formats w/ various leans in one direction or another.

I don't believe i've heard the violater remix. Not that many dance friendly stations around here.

I think she did well enough without Snoop Dogg in "I kissed a girl" and a few other hits. I'm not one who believes in everything should stay the same forever, just because that's the way it was before or because that's how it started out. This is the problem with how most people think today and is the type of thinking that's partially the blame for the way things are in the music world today. I believe people should be able to do whatever genre they wish regardless of what they are known for or what they've done in the past. The limited thinking is what is causing the sea of sameness today, where just about everyone and every format in America seemingly has an unoriginal, identical formula and sounds the same. The listeners will only continue to embrace the sea of sameness since this is all they are fed, the same way... actually, I wont even get into what I was about to get in to because I think I can make the point without drifting into other topics to make an example.

Lastly, I'll say I may not care 100% for the song, but this does not mean I think everyone in the world should stop experimenting and stick to one sound. I may be extraordinary, but I believe in variety and doing things differently from how they "should" be done - and finding a way to make it work in circumstances where it's necessary.
