Katy Perry Invites Lenny Kravitz to Join Super Bowl Halftime Performance

Global superstar Katy Perry has invited Lenny Kravitz to join her as she headlines the Pepsi Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show on NBC at University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona on Sunday, February 1, it was announced today during an exclusive interview with Katy on NBC’s broadcast of the AFC Divisional Playoff game featuring the Baltimore Ravens at New England Patriots. Katy’s full interview with NBC’s Willie Geist discussing her upcoming halftime performance and her invite to Kravitz will air Monday morning on TODAY.

Perhaps the Stupid Bowl committee could also waggle an invitation to the June Taylor Dancers, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Applette Marching Band of Wenatchee, WA to fill out the program. Coupled with the onslaught of commercials it has become very easy to forget there is an actual football game, of sorts, to be played.

I don't see what all the controversy is about. Katy Perry is a winsome lass with a great figure, including large breasts. That's also the description of the so-called "cheerleaders" on the sidelines of most NFL games. Normally on the halftime of a televised football game there is commentary and analysis of all the other games being played at the same time. Since there are no other games being played on the same day as the Super Bowl, why not have some eye-candy entertainment that sort of honors the scantily-clad bimbos that shake and jiggle on the sidelines of most NFL games? As a Steeler fan, I must admit that I am used to only seeing the dancing bimbos of the other team, since the Steelers don't see a need to supplement their games with gratuitous T&A. But given how many other teams do, why shouldn't the Super Bowl half-time show include a performance by a pop tart with outstanding Ts and a really nice A?

The Super Bowl is perhaps the only event in which both "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "America The Beautiful" are performed (this will be John Legend's second rendition of the latter; he previously did it at Wrestlemania a few years ago).

Personally, I would've gotten Pentatonix to do either of them, but maybe next year.

Well, she did the show. It was well done, with nothing offensive or controversial. Maybe it wasn't some folks' favorite style of music (it wasn't mine) but I don't see how anyone looking at the show objectively could find anything seriously negative to say about the entire show. To all the people who predicted that something embarrassing might happen, don't you feel foolish now that it's over and nothing bad happened?

The thing about this is there are so many vested interests involved in this thing, with Pepsi, the NFL, the TV network, the artist, that there's not much chance for bad things happening. It all has to be approved by six layers of corporate bureaucracy. That's what big money looks like.

I thought it was technically amazing...production values have really gone beyond music. But the last few have been equally amazing. Like the Olympics closing ceremony.

I was kind of lukewarm about the halftime show...the "video stage floor" was pretty neat with the lighting effects, and the dancers did a good job. However, Katy Perry herself was kind of blah...I expected a more dynamic performance from her. Of course, I am way beyond her target demographic--I am familiar with the songs she performed, but not her usual concert schtick.

I thought it was just fine musically, and downright spectacular when it came to showmanship. And Katy looked gorgeous. Thumbs up!

Katy Perry Wears Wii Remote Strap During Super Bowl Halftime Show

Multiple users on Twitter, including celebrities, have pointed out that Katy Perry wore a Wii Remote wrist strap during the Super Bowl halftime show last night. The strap was tied to the Firework singer’s wireless microphone, which some viewers jokingly said was a Wii Remote in disguise. Perry even tightened the band using its strap lock, which could’ve prevented the mic from falling out of her hand and to the ground during her performance.

I was trying to figure out what her first costume reminded me of. I was thinking fast-food uniform. Then somebody I was watching the game with said it - Hot Dog on a Stick!

She looked great it in, however.

The mechanics/technical side was fantastic...I bet the insurance carrier was cr*pping bricks as she was lifted on the overhead camera system to ride that small plate (she was belted to the pole behind her but if the overhead cabling had broke, it could have been a disaster!!)...Music wise, wasn't special...Hell it took me a while to realize and Kravitz were doing her hit "I kissed a girl" because of the over compression of the audio and you could barely hear her voice over the background music, etc...

All in all, though it was pretty good........not disappointing as the Seahawks became in the last 20 seconds of the game..after that FANTASTIC bounce catch, they sure blew it with that awful pass play that resulted in the interception...I didnt care who won (Hey I live in SE Texas.....so you KNOW who I am a fan of...Da Saints!!!! LOL....no, really the Pokes, The Texans AND who dat??) but the game itself was boring except for those fantastic pass receptions by Seattle...

Reminded me of the old days of the Luv Ya Blue-it-again Houston Oilers......

You're right about the potential for disaster; I was holding my breath. A few years ago, when Cher was on one of her tours, she was supposed to make an entrance by being lowered to the stage in a sort of birdcage suspended from the lighting bridge. Well, the bottom dropped out of the birdcage, and she grabbed the cage bars and held on for her life until the device reached the floor. (I heard about this incident second-hand from my kid sister who was at another of Cher's shows, Cher mentioned the incident in her on-stage remarks.)

Katy Perry's Halftime Show the Most-Watched in Super Bowl History

Katy Perry's Super Bowl performance was seen by 118.5 million viewers, making it the most-watched halftime show ever, according to Nielsen data.

The audience for Perry's 13-minute appearance, with guests Missy Elliott and Lenny Kravitz, topped Bruno Mars' show last year by 3.2 million viewers. The Mars performance in 2014 was the previous record-holder.

Halftime shows have been tracked since 1991, when New Kids on the Block became the first pop act to appear in the NFL championship game. The first 24 editions of the Super Bowl featured drill teams, Up With People, Disney-programmed shows and other themed performances.

The NFL will be pleased to learn its new half time demo are 13-year old girls.

The tween demo likely hasn't ever tuned into the Big Game. Eyeballs are eyeballs. Just about every aging geezer rock band has had their shot, though there are probably a few playing the casino circuit who can be rounded up for "50" in SF.

The Big Game, no. The Half-Time Howler, yes.

She nailed the show. Missy Elliot and Lenny Kravitz were odd choices to complement her act, but she was spot on. Great choice by the NFL.
