KATZ-FM will change formats in the next few days and is currently stunting with Halloween themed music. The station switched to its current hip hop oriented format around 1999 I believe. However way back to the 80s KATZ-FM had a mainstream urban format, I remember them as sort of the poor second cousin to powerhouse KMJM Majic 108 in the late 80s.
This leaves Radio One's Hot 104.1 as the only youthful leaning urban in Saint Louis. Chalk this one up as a victim of PPM. Of course, the hip hop leaning urbans are the ones suffering the most from PPM, look at what has happened to WGCI and WPGC. I would expect that a few more of these stations may be changing formats in not so distant future.
