Kind and generous, yes...but also well deserved on her part. I have been (or was) in radio for thirty years and I think Kay was one of the best PDs I ever worked with. When I started at the River I had just moved back from Lost Wages (Las Vegas) where some jerk of a PD taught me to puke and believe me it is hard to stop once you get sick! I remember my first aircheck session with her. She listened to the first break, turned off the machine, then looked at me and said “I don’t know how to tell you this Mitch, but your voice sounds better in this room than it does on the air”! She said it with a smile on her face a gleam in her eye so it wouldn’t hurt the ego too bad. She made her point and helped me to start sounding more natural on the air. She is not only great air talent, but a great person and a talented PD who should be working by now. If fact she and Jerry Dean called me in to fire me when they decided to go with voice-tracking the graveyard shift and I wouldn’t leave! She said I could stay and do part-time with a couple of weekend shifts and I did. I wouldn’t have done that for anyone but Kay. What goes around comes around and you got some good stuff coming you way girl, hang in there.<P ID="signature">______________

You left out a couple of things.She was my pd there for a good while, too.
I was Mr. Solid Gold Sunday for a long time.(Before I Frogged Up!) I'd mess with the format a bit here and there and it never really got by her. She let me slide a lot of times, and called me on the carpet a few times. She did her job with dedication and integrity. You basically covered that.
Here's some you left off.
1. She is funny as hell.
2. She is the only person I've ever heard drop a live "F" bomb on the air in Memphis radio.(That was a Hoot!-and she did it while Joel Burke was OM!)
3. She is loyal.
4. She is a Tennessee Vol Football fan.
5. She treated me the same when I was part-time at WRVR AND when I was full-time at Froggy.
You are right...a great PD that oughtta be workin' somewhere right now, with good pay!
The fact that she is not speaks volumes about some of the corporate friggin' idiots that call themselves programmers today. It is my guess that many a OM or GM she has interviewed with feels a bit threatened by a woman with a strong personality.

I would be way remiss if I missed the "Kudos to Kay" bandwagon as it passed. Working for her during the Solid Gold Sunday era was a pleasure. She is a real pro, and a people person.

A sliver of that day, as my failing memory recalls it:
"Mike... Did you hear it?"
"Hear what?"
(whispered) "I accidentaly said **** and I think it went out over the air!"
"Um..."
Spent the next few hours wondering if the phones were going to start ringing (they didn't, as I recall), if anyone in the office next door was going to explode--and periodically bursting into laughter. That was an extraordinarily interesting broadcast day.
Kay, if I was going to start a radio station tomorrow (and who says I'm not?), I'd draft you in the first round. You're too good at what you do, and too good a person to work with.
The KIX folks should invent a position for you, just to have you contributing full-time to their efforts.
