PHOENIX (January 31, 2007) – Arizona Community Media Foundation (AzCMF) announced today that it has reached an agreement with Sandusky Radio to broadcast Pacifica Radio’s Democracy Now! news program on KAZG 1440AM weekdays 12noon to 1pm, beginning Monday, February 5, 2007.
Phoenix is currently the largest city in the United States not served by an FCC licensed college music or community radio station. With the entry of Democracy Now! on KAZG, AzCMF begins working towards a long-term goal of developing a block of community-based programming spotlighting local groups (artists, musicians, immigrants, labor, etc.) that are often underserved by existing commercial and public radio stations in the Valley. In addition, AzCMF also desires to bring more national and international programs like Democracy Now! to Phoenix listeners.
“Democracy Now! is a great program that provides a voice for persons of color, organized labor, immigrants, and many other groups often left out of media dialogues. We are thrilled to bring this national news service to Phoenix listeners,” said Rhonda Boyle, president of AzCMF.
Local businesses and individuals interested in sponsoring the local broadcast of Democracy Now! or volunteering with AzCMF may contact[EDIT].
