KAZG on the air at 6:20 a.m.!

Dr. Akbar said:
Wednesday morning Nurse Jeff and I DX'ed Lumberyard 14~Forty about five miles east of the Ponderosa parking lot. At least we thought we were DXing as the modulation was running about 15% of normal.

So KAZG finally got (programming) on the air this morning, albeit with sub-par mod?
What time did you tune in? From their slightly early (naughty naughty!) sign-on
through at least 0640 there was nothing but carrier and dead air.

Wednesday April 18:
Sign-on 0556:43, 5 kw (usual meter strength), carrier only, no ID. The old rig
came up with a "pop" sound, then what sounded like three old pulse dial sounds,
followed by yet another test of their new morning show "Programa Silencio."
Sign-off 1856:38, no ID, carrier cut at almost the end of S&G's Mrs. Robinson.
("...Lumberyard has left and gone away...hey hey hey...hey hey hey.") :'(

Wednesday, music didn't start until 7:04:10, in the middle of something, and ID'd at 7:05:10. Oh what fun they must have, trying to decide who is going to do the honors tomorrow?

The Nurse and I have also heard that prior to the K-DOT calls, Lumberyard 14~Forty was known as KPOK (kay-poke) to capitalize on the western image of Snottsdale. But what twisted soul put this station on the air, and how did it get matched with 100.Seven? And why do they promote it as a "daytime gold mine" while sitting on nighttime authorization of a blazing 52 watts? We're thinking of hiring Gary Harper of 3TV (the place with more Stuff, Oprah, Family, News to check it out!

Here is the latest installment of Lumberyard Follies for
Thursday April 19:

Sign-on 0556:34, 5 kw, no ID, music JIP. As late as 0610
there was still no ID (nor were there any jingles or liners,
only music segued).

Sign-off 1856:30, no ID, carrier cut during music (so early in the
song that Betty Everett couldn't even get out one "shoop"). ;)

..are we the only ones amazed this non-rated station has generated so many posts?

There are at least 10 times as many posts in this thread as KAZG has listeners. ;D

There wouldn't be so many posts if some local radio geek didn't
keep a daily log of their sign-on and sign-off indiscretions. ;D

Oh, I guess you're waiting for the latest chapter of same...

Friday April 20:

Sign-on 0556:26, 5 kw, carrier on with dead air (again with a "pop"
followed by what sounded like three pulse-dial clicks). No ID of course,
but then there never is. ::) Still carrier only at 0608, by 0620 there
was finally music.

Sign-off 1856:21, no ID, carrier cut mid-song (the lamp timer sure
did a "Wipeout" to the Surfaris).

Same thing this morning (Sat).......................

Oldies fan, if you don't already have one, you should check into one of the Casio Atomic watches. I have one with a "Time Stamper" function. In the "time stamp" mode, each time you puch the "D" button, it will register the date and time, and I think it will hold the last 30. Great while driving. I just tried to recall them, but don't remember how. I'll have to get out the booklet, which is about 120 pages, including English, Spanish, German, French etc versions!

The particulars on pberger's morning mention, and the rest
of the day's numbers from the Lumberyard lamp timer, which
is now closing in on four minutes fast...

Saturday April 21:

Sign-on 0556:17, 5 kw, second morning in a row with carrier
only ("pop" plus three "pulse clicks"), and naturally no ID.
Still dead air at 0617, by the next check at approx. 0630
the music was finally going.

Sign-off 1856:13, no ID, carrier cut during song.

....you'd think someone would grab a 2x4 off the shelf at Ponderosa and smack that lamp timer upside it's head! The Nurse and I wonder how much revenue Gumpdusky is pulling off that tower - gotta be at least a dozen antennae hanging off the sides!

??? ??? ??? Can you hear Lumberyard 14~Forty where you are? ??? ??? ???

The third time is the charm...not!

Three-in-a-row used to be a big deal in Top 40 radio,
at Lumberyard 1440 it's three consecutive failed sign-ons
in a row as of Sunday April 22:

Sign-on 0556:09, 5 kw, third day in a row with carrier only
("pop" and three "pulse clicks"). No ID goes without saying.
The great sound of dead air was still there during spot checks
at 0615 and 0750, at which time I left it on to see "when."
"When" occurred at 0758 with music JIP. No ID aired between
then and 0812.

Sign-off 1856:04, no ID, carrier cut during song. Wilson Pickett
bought the '65 Mustang but didn't get a chance to give it to Sally.

Yo, Oldiesfan...you obviously have the time, so why not see if Lumberyard 14~Forty delivers on the 14 in a row promise? If they can't figure out audio with carrier, then the Nurse and I suspect they can't count to 14 either!

Wow, so much on the board this evening (led by J.D. Wafflesworth)
that my head is spinning!

Doc--all I can devote is a few minutes around 0600 and 1900 to
catch the rules 'n' regs infidelities by Lumberyard 1440.

So, for Monday April 23, the stats have just been compiled and,
welllllll doggie, it's four-in-a-row for the sign-on follies:

Sign-on 0556:01, 5 kw, dead air carrier only (again!) right out of
the chute. Did I mention "no ID"? Do I have to? :D And now
that I've heard it so often recently, the "sign-on sound of 1440"
is more like a "pop" and five "pulse dial clicks" (not three).
Nothing at 0607, music was there by the next check around 0630.

Sign-off 1855:56, no ID, carrier cut while the Dixie Cups were on
their way to the Chapel Of Love.

Take it from us, the Dixie Cups will never be lonely again. btw..do you know the web address of Lumberyard 14~Forty? The Nurse and I want to know what genius came up with "Your Daytime Gold Mine"? A stroke of genius.

No KAZG website AFAIK, Doc--unless you count this board!

In honor of J.D. Wafflesworth's return to broadcasting, let's duck in
some ball scores......or maybe we'll just report the numbers from
the Lumberyard.

Tuesday April 24:

Sign-on 0555:52, 5 kw, no ID--but hey, they actually linked the hard
drive with the Amphilphase right from the outset today; of course it
was music JIP but that's better than dead air. ID aired at 0602.

Sign-off 1855:48, no ID, carrier cut during song.

And here's a Lumberyard 1440 contest suggestion for Gumpdusky:
a variation of the old "when will it hit 100?" run annually by KT'R.
This time it's "when will the lamp timer break the five minutes early
mark for sign-on?"

Guess the day and you win a bag full of solid gold 45s, just like you hear
on KAZG. Guess the day and the exact time (must have atomic clock)
and you win a week's worth of installments of Nancy Pelosi's Fan Club.
Specify preferred format: reel-to-reel, cassette, or electrical transcription.

Does the second place winner get a "East Valley Radio Network" greatest hits album?

Entercom need to do the Phoenix-Rochester swap deal with Sandusky Radio

We need Entercom to make the Phoenix, AZ-Rochester, NY swap with Sandusky Radio.

Read the article about Entercom is over the radio ownership caps in Rochester.
http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=377832

Entercom may gets:

93.3 KDKB (Rock)
97.9 KUPD (Active Rock)
100.7 KSLX (Classic Rock)
1060 KDUS- The Fan (Sports)
1440 KAZG- (Oldies)

Sandusky Radio may gets:

Fickle 93.3- WFKL (Adult Hits)
The Zone 94.1- WZNE (Alternative Rock)
WARM 101.3- WRMM (Adult Contemporary)

This could be a good deal between Entercom and Sandusky Radio.

ROFL to both Akbar and Mr. EVOORN. ;)

Meanwhile, it's back to the Lumberyard Report, this time for
Wednesday April 25:

Sign-on 0555:44, 5 kw, no ID, music JIP, ID aired at 0559.

Sign-off 1855:39, no ID, carrier sliced from the airwaves in
the usual fashion.

Should be interesting to see what happens when May rolls
around next week--will the lamp timer keep it's current early
drift to what should be five plus minutes by next Tuesday
from the May 0530-1915 times, or will Gumpdusky finally
recalibrate it to something closer to accurate? And then
let it start to drift anew?

Hmmm, maybe the words "recalibrate" and "lamp timer"
don't belong in the same sentence. ;D
