KAZG Radio Station..man it's HOT here!

Hello. Bill and I are picking up a Freightliner truck to be delivered to Ohio later in the month and we're here in Arizona until Thursday. Wow that Arizona Gold KAZG sure is fuzzy sounding. We were in Scotts dale and heard it all over the place on Thomas Road. Is that big tower thier antenna. Jeesh it must be a zillion watts or something because we heard like 1440 on 1450..all the way to 1630, and all the way from 1430 down to 1000. What gives there? It's like they are all over the radio dial on all channels. How can they do that? is it like they have a special license or something. This is the radio station that has a lamp timer on it huh? Does that make it go all over the radio? And it sure is HOT here. The steakhouse lady says that it's always like this..but Bill said not to trust here because he says he saw her put some of those little butter things back in the cooler, and he thinks she was returning some mushrrom gravy to the buffet table but thats okay because it it re-cooks in there right?

Doctor Akubar is one of my favorites on this message board but I don't think he likes KAZG much. Why don't you like them? Are you really a doctor? I have a kind of fungus thing running up my back legs.

Oh and we met Dwayne Eddy once in Florida. Bill didn't believe it was him and made him show us his driver's license. I think he might have been a little drunk.

KAZG's power is 5 kW, ND days, 52 watts, ND nights; they don't run 52 watts unless sunrise is after 6.00.

That big tower is KAZG's antenna, and it does have a lamp timer.

When you are close to a station, it will have wide-range splatter.

Enjoy the rest of your time here!

..don't like KAZG? I've got KA on my right cheek, and Nurse Jeff has ZG on his left. Together we're a walkin' billboard for Lumberyard 14~Forty. Yes I'm a real doc, but keep that fungus thing away from us...we're already dealin' with rust and body rot on the '76 Gremlin. Thanks for spending time in our little portion of Hell. At least it's a dry heat!

Here in Chicago, I have moisture to keep my Darts rusting properly. How do you manage in Phoenix to rust your Gremlin?
Salt water poultices?

I forget, does yours have the indestructible 6, the 343 or the 390?
Do actually get to use the "Desert ONLY" setting on the climate control? Too cool!

I've always wondered about that AMC feature.

What if you're in suburban D.C. when it's 95 degrees and 95%--
if you switch the A/C to "desert only" does the Gremlin explode? ;D

Only if you retrofit a Pinto gas tank! While AMC led the Big Four in design (Gremlin, Pacer, Marlin, etc), their engineering was just a little suspect. Our '76 has the legendary straight Six...too strong to go wrong. The odometer crapped out at 150k, so Nurse Jeff and I are just wingin' it at this time!

Back to topic - has anyone actually counted the number of songs Lumberyard 14~Forty plays when they kick off their 14 in a row? Being litigous opportunists, the Nurse and I wonder if there's easy money to be made if Gumpdusky fails to deliver on the promise?

Bill spent the day at the urgent care place in Mesa to get soemthing taken care of and I took the rental car back to Scotts dale. Holy crap you guys aren't kidding. that 1440 station really is in some kind of big yard like a lumberyard! Holy crap. I saw a guy come out of the little building there and he let me inside to see the gear. You know what? There really is a lamp timer type of thing on there! The guys name was Mike or mark or something. Kinda fat, but a nice guy anyway and he showed me. There is a big rack of stuff and a little box. Mark said that the little one was what they use at night...and it's like only 50 watts or something, but there it was. A DYMCO lamp timer connected to it and it was plugged into a battery backup box, but Mark said that sometimes it doesn't work right and loses time. Mike said that the big one had like three lamp timers to flip a bigger set of switches to turn off the rack of stuff, and that the single lamp timer is supposed to turn on the little one..but most of the time it doesn't work quite right so he has to drive out there and do it..and a lot of the times he just doesn't bother. He was mad about that and said someting about telling everyone to step off someday cause they don't pay him enough to drive all the way out there and do it.. Then he laughed. He smoked but said that nobody was supposed to know about it.

Hey my dad had an AMC Ambassador. It had something called a "weather eye" on it. Nobody knew what it did. Not even the guy at the rambler dealer. I told my little brother David that it could predict what the weather would be and he believed me. He would go out there to the car every day to see. What a little weenie he is. Stupid David.

Thank you

Howard

Hey we have to drive that truck to Kettering Ohio tomorrow from here. Are there any oldies stations on the way? We enjoyed the steakhouse and the target store a lot here. It sure is hot here though. Man alive!

It ain't hot ..... yet. You just got a short taste of our summer. Wait until mid-June or mid-September.

But if you are leaving Thursday you're going to miss our big cool down. Only supposed to be 80 the next couple days (notice the wind today? That's how we know it's gonna cool off).

Anyway, have a good journey. If you are headed back through Tucson you can listen to KOOL (94.5) until almost in the city limits then switch to 92.9(?) for their oldies station (if it's still lit up). Then you're on your own until you get close to El Paso.

Sorry if our comments about Lumberyard 14~Forty's feeble attempt at nightime operations with 52 watts got under Mike..Mark..or something's skin. The Nurse and I are now even more convinced Gumpdusky doesn't care at all about their Scottsdale daytimer. We can only imagine what you saw inside that concrete building surrounded by all kinds of junk, just east of the canal and south of Thomas. Years ago you could make out the original calls on the building (KDOT) and imagine what visions of market domination ran through some owner's head. And that is a pretty impressive Tower of Power...rivals Sports Parking Lot 6~Twentys, but with fewer illegals hanging around it.

Hope you enjoy the scenery on the way back to Ohio. Nurse Jeff wants to know if you're related to the Howie that has a furniture store up on Bell Rd?

Wow was that you in Wisconsin? Bill and I were just there, and I didn't hear that. May we download that and listen on the CD? Please let me know.

Hey man have you guys ever eaten t Rod's Steakhouse? It is in Williams, Arizona all right. WOW what a great place. Best steak I have ever eaten anywhere. We are driving this brand new Feightliner cab to near Dayton Ohio now and we're getting ready to stay overnight somewhere we can park this. Thank you for your kindnes in Phoenix. Doctor Accubar is very nice, and maybe we would like to all meet up next time we are in Scotts dale or somewhere for a steak dinner. There was that one place called Rosewood or Wild wood or something that was pretty good but as I told you Bill thought the waitress was returning food to the warmers. Hey I gotta tell you oething it's not easy to type on this notebook in this bouncing rig all right. Hope you can read my typing. We ahave the Sprint card that slips into the side and it works in most towns. We are off to Ohio. thank you agin..see you later

thank you

howard

Howard,

Howie...you're more than welcome to join Nurse Jeff, the Luvable One, and yours truly at Bill Johnsons for a super sized portion of Humble Pie next time that big rig comes to town. We're still not sure what L 1 has in mind, but it should be darned close to interesting. If we get there before 7:15pm, I'll ask that they put Lumberyard 14~Forty on the overheads!

btw....is it raining where you are?

Screw Bill Johnson's, Eddie Matney has a new restaurant.

I'm surprised that McBland hasn't done a special report on it yet.

It IS raining where I am!

I had a 1954 Ambassador with a weather eye. Bought a 1969 Ambassador with the desert only ac feature. Yes it worked. Moved on to a 1974 Hornet. Those cars had the best heaters too. The Ambassador's front seats both fully reclined to make a bed. Also had a 1968 Javelin; great styling on that model. The straight 6 developed in the early 1950's was still used into the 1990's in Jeeps. But my favorite and the best one I owned was a 1951 Hudson Hornet with the 308 ci. flathead 6 that I drove in the 1980's.

...well, if you were in Wisconsin just a while ago, rather than in 2001, you wouldn't have heard it there (unless you had Rod Serling's old radio). Sure, you can download it and burn it to CD; just click through on the "Download" links on the web pages...

...oh, and while I'm at it, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in the '70s, not only were AMC Gremlins made there (at AMC's Lakeshore plant, IIRC), but there was a pizza joint called Pizza Tech that delivered their wares in green Gremlins customised with the restaurant's logo. The pizza itself didn't compare favourably with the greatness of Valeo's Pizza Kitchen in later years, but it was light years ahead of the placenta-on-underbaked-dough that Domino's and Little Caesar's peddle nowadays...

And to think this topic has gone from Lumberyard 14~Forty to placenta on underbaked dough in just two pages! Nurse Jeff and I are looking forward to meeting Howard on his next trip to Scotts Dale. Maybe Gumpdusky will be using those 52 watts at night and it won't be raining where we are by then!

Doc, when he gets back (Howard, not Loretta ;D) it will
probably be June, so Lumberyard 1440 can crank 'em out
till 7:45 before the lamptimer kills the plate.
