KAZI Austin's new antenna

While researching MLK Day activities I came across a post on KAZI's home page seeking donations for a new antenna. The post says their current antenna is 35 years old and "This will increase our range of coverage in the Central Texas area and allow us to reach more listeners." I didn't see any CPs for KAZI in the FCC database. Can a new antenna increase coverage or is it fundraising hyperbole?

A new antenna design could increase ERP, but that would involve an application to the FCC for a signal upgrade. Perhaps KAZI wants to actually have the money in hand before making that application (which might be a smart idea; too many stations apply first, get the CP, then struggle to raise money.)

I assume KAZI is actually referring to "the antenna" and not the transmitter itself? I see they have a $25,000 goal. Would be somewhat (but not completely) surprised if they are still on the original unit from the mid-70's.

With KUHF having full HD in Houston a lot of the time I get KUHF during a skip. I have my HD radio disabled most of the time so it doesn't really effect me.

KAZI is a Class A so it will always struggle to cover the whole metro.

I can pick it up after I get past the Drag, all the way to Braker and Burnet but when I get past 183 on Braker, the signal fades. It is kind of come and go signal over Central and Northwest Austin.

I like their Zydeco show and their old school R&B shows. Brings me back to the late 90s listening to both KBXX and KMJQ out in Houston.
