This station is running outdated top 40 from Party 97.7's last days on the air. A tight playlist, no imaging that I've heard.

What happened to Radio H2O's simulcast? They might as well run an urban format or dance on this station, both might match with KBBT HD1.

I would like to see a Spanish News/Talk station on KBBT HD2. After all they own KWEX-TV.

95.1 HD2 has Spanish news / talk, KCOR-AM I believe.

Spanish news/talk just hasn't scored in the ratings here in the USA with the exception of perhaps Miami.
It's very expensive to do right.

How has 102.3 lasted so long, then?

That was what I was going to ask!

and How has 720 AM ESPN Deportes (also been on 103.1 for some time) lasted so long?

102.3 and, for that matter, 720 and 103.1 have no real audience. Either they're being paid to run that programming, or their running so much piped in programming that their expenses are practically zero.

Fred's right. News/talk in Spanish doesn't work in very many places, at least not in the US. I'm thinking it doesn't even work overly well in Mexico, though I'm sure either Fred or David know more about that than I do.

News/Talk actually does very well in Mexico. But their talent costs are a lot lower than in the USA. Consequently the stations have more local hosts and more local news. That's what you need to pull it off. Not some satellite format... although there are plent of those in smaller markets. Mexico also led the charge for news/talk to move to FM. About a quarter of the FMs in Mexico City run some kind of spoken word format.

I think it's because BMP doesn't know what to do with 103.1. When I asked them, they said they'd simulcast 720 on it until they figured out what to do with it. That was a few months ago.

Try contacting them and suggesting a format.

I did and I suggested "San Antonio's Greatest Hits" ;D
I still think they are on their way out.
Kind of like, Why bother? It will be gone in less than 2 years.

BMP doesn't own a Television station in San Antonio, as Univision does.
You already got the news crew at KWEX-TV Add some Talk shows, Pro-Soccer, Spurs Games, Even cover the Longhorns, News from Mexico, and all of Latin America, Comedy shows bring a sense of Local happenings. It could do real well.
It would be worth a trial launch.

KONO 101 is already San Antonio's Greatest Hits. I can't think of any other ideas except Urban / Hip-Hop or some form of dance. I know this board has a few Dance lovers.

Wow they brand themselves now as that? Probably to prevent BMP from using it!

They still could name it "True Oldies Channel" or "Kool 103.1" KHHL

I think they've been doing it for a couple years. At least a year or two ago it was that. Not sure about now.

And if they do get music on 103.1, they better take care of that phone line and get Broadband.

If they would turn the transmitter off, San Antonio would have classic country on FM. I was tuning around earlier and heard KSAQ trying to override the signal, on the NW side around the Med Center. But it wasn't doing a very good job. Still KSAQ would be pretty receivable in much of SA I bet, if K272EK was to go down.

KBBT HD2 has been silent ever since KESS flipped to Mexican Regional.
Why doesn't Univision play dance or something on it?
