KBET sold (and Beasley overpaid)

Beasley bought it from Morgan Skinner, that's a name I haven't heard of in a LONG time! I remember when he was the GM of 1230 KLAV when they were a CHR in the early 80s.

Alvin Korngold owned KLAV. We actually had for a time very impressive numbers
against KLUC, which was so lily-white and pop. Having Doug Banks didn't hurt
either. Problem was Korngold was a criminal piece of garbage, who didn't pay
his bills. He was nearly killed by the mob at one point.

Did you know that Alvin Korngold passed away recently? I met him a couple of times. He once told me that the KLAV call letters stand for "Voice (of) Alvin L Korngold" backwards.

Whatever happened to Shawn St, John? He was my favorite KLAV personality during that era. The last I heard he was at KWIN/Stockton and then in a rehab program but that was a looong time ago.

Getting back to KBET, any word on their format? Will it be a bunch of time brokered shows? With those call letters they could run a bunch of sports touts selling their picks, like we don't have enough of those already.

Word is that KBET will join Beasley's stable of time brokered stations. They have some reason to think they can get a daytime upgrade to 5,000 watts.

More bad news for 1400, which can't sell itself out of a bag, although I suppose they make enough money with their "shoppers", no?
