For the last week or so, it sounds like 97.9 has been using a low bitrate codec for it's STL. (For the non radio engineer lingo: it sounds like they are broadcasting through a telephone) Anyone know what's going on? The audio usually sounds very good, full and perfect for the format!

I was in Dallas the other day. I couldn't tell any difference. That was the first time I have tuned 97.9 since KZEW went off. I haven't cared about anything they have put on 97.9 since. It might as well be dead air.
 
Can't really listen to low bitrate audio unless it's something I like. A couple of the translators down here in SA do low quality AAC.
