Ah, you're out of the loop eh... Well I'm expecting a "Fresh" style format. Or perhaps rock. Pretty sure something's gonna happen soon.

Either rock or the new CC Spanish format debuting September 17.

What happens to Charlie Tuna? Does he become another Rick Dees, kicked to the curb by CC?

Charlie Tuna would ge a great fit at KRTH, but they have no room for him unless they let someone go.

Emmis teams him up with Rick Dees :D

David, your suggestion that it could indeed be an English speaking format surprises me....or could you mean a Spanish rock format?

Try this on for size...Michael Martin is the new VP/Programming, CC brings in Alan Sledge as PD - Rumours flying CC is going to only 2 SVP's - Romano and Chase and KBIG goes Country.

There are no successful Spanish rock formats outside Argentina, where there is one. No, I mean modern / alternative to be ready for PPM... or Spanish regional, to enter the only sector in LA that is growing.

Ain't gonna be a Spanish language format!
CC feels the LA market is too crowded for the advertising $$ being spent.
Whether thats true or not....that's the CC consensus.

Keep hearing strong rumors about an impending change at KBIG. Anyone have any info?

JMO, but if CC wanted to flip an LA station to FRESH, all they'd have to do is tweak KYSR. With the exception of the morning show, I see that 98.7's DJs have already been minimized on the STAR website. For example, using first names only is a big thing with FRESH.

KYSR and WWFS already play much of the same music.

So it's possible the station that's going to flip is Star and not KBIG?
For my money KBIG goes to a Fresh format and Star goes rock.

Star has a defective signal. If they want to gain in the PPM and cut into KROQ, it has to be KBIG.

If KBIG goes "Fresh," I wonder if there'll be a full housecleaning of jocks and PD, or if they'll reshuffle the deck, pull some out, put some in. At the very least, though, I think ANY change at KBIG will include Tuna leaving.

My guess would be some staying and some going. They could wait until Tuna's contract runs out if it's not too long to go, or they could can him when they make the change, but I think they'll let him go. I don't think they'll call it Fresh either. But I think that it will sound like Fresh musically. DE is right, it would make sense to go rock with KBIG and Fresh with Star, but I don't believe that's CC's thinking. That would be too logical...

FORMATICALLY, it makes sense to take Star rock and KBIG Fresh, because that would be merely pushing them further than where they are right now. But money wise, I think it would be a better investment to take KBIG rock because of the superior signal... that would be absolutely vital if you're going to jump into KROQ's side of the pool.

But not to be discounted is KROQ's heft with the rock industry. I have a feeling they would throw their weight around to keep any acts from doing anything with a new rocker in town.

KBIG would have a signal advantage over KYSR (and KROQ) because they are grandfathered to a higher power as well as being on Mount Wilson. KYSR is also a higher power than would be licensed now but has a less desirable transmitter location. KROQ has relatively low power as well as a lower antenna height. Thus if CC wants to go head to head with the rock format it would make most sense on the KBIG signal. KYSR would be the logical choice for the "Fresh' format as it is partially there already.
