KBJS 90.3/95.7?? Did I miss something?

Traveling into Palestine today on U.S. 79 from Jacksonville, I was listening to KFOX 95.5 from Lufkin. As I approached Loop 256, I got some interference from another station. Upon hitting the scan button, my radio landed on 95.7. It was broadcasting KBJS programming, per call letters aired, and it matched what was going out on 90.3.

The signal was strong in Palestine, but faded out as I approached Elkhart.

Question, Did KBJS sign on a translator in Palestine? If so, when?

Or, is this an anomoly which will not be common?

It happened quite recently. It's another E-String Wireless operation, but it's interesting that they're rebroadcasting KBJS within the main station's coverage area. I can't see where there would be a big reception problem in Palestine.

The original application from a few years ago specified KJCS Nacodoches as the originating station (guess they had to choose something) but that was later changed to KGLY Tyler. Offhand I'd say that made sense because KGLY is more signal-challenged in Palestine when compared to several other religious broadcasters, like KVNE, for example.

Even KVNE is challenged in Palestine. IIRC, they're somewhat directional toward the north and/or northeast. I'm thinking the null to the south is to protect KSBJ/Houston at 89.3.

KVNE's signal starts dropping out just north of Palestine. It's still listenable into the city, but it's exceeded my white noise threshold for listening.

FWIW, I've picked KVNE up as far northeast as Hope, Arkansas, before. This was long before KLTV's tower came crashing down and the antennae that got zapped by lightning and frozen water in a couple of their bays.

Supposedly KVNE will be relayed by a new translator on 94.5 in Athens. E-String Wireless has applied for a license to cover for K233BE, running 250 watts from a tower just over 600 feet. Originally they had planned to use a tower close to town, but later modified the CP to use a site off Texas 19 south. With that their city-grade signal won't cover all of Athens.

I saw that in today's FCC Daily Digest, too. Also, there's an app for license to cover a translator in Paris that's designated for KVNE. With all these new translators for KVNE, that legal ID at 8AM, 1PM, 5PM and 10PM ought to be interesting.

I know the staff and management of KVNE/KGLY will be happy to have that extra "umph" to their signal in those areas.

And they just keep on coming. Here are more newly added translators in East Texas for the stations, subject to change, of course: 103.7 Palestine (KGLY), 97.3 Nacodoches (KVNE) and 97.5 Lufkin (KVNE).
