KBLX ad in SF Chronicle

In the Datebook section (pg. E2) of today's (12/16/2008) SF Chronicle:

An ad for KBLX saying, "Coming Soon...announcing in Sunday's Datebook"

???

My friend Joe says, "Maybe they're going solar-powered?"

...Or maybe they're going to announce conversion to "HD" and the addition of an HD2 channel. They're one of the few Bay Area FMs that haven't done this already.

Well, that was the so-called inside information I had gotten back in October. I guess what really happened was that the there was change being planned and someone jumped to a wrong conclusion.

Long-shot here: sister-station 1400 AM ('member that?) once-again
becomes K R E and 102.7 becomes K R E-F M...

;D

Thought about that but didn't mention it due to my (a while back) proclimation of not mentioning that name ever again. But I can mention KQQQ-FM though, as that would be a great set of call letters for that new name.

Too bad you can't do 5 letter calls (KQQQQ), then you could call it "4Q-102."

And of course, I meant "point nine" in my previous witty message,

....or it could just be an announcement about the 30 year Anniversary celebration that will be happenning in '09....

Someone told me a few years ago that there was some sort of
regulation where you could have a five-letter callsign - though
I could not find that particular 'rule' online or in the FCC documents...
Boy, if such a rule existed, stations could have fun with that!

A mistype on my part with the "7" - I dunno about 1069_KIFR's, tho...

With all the staff reductions at KBLX recently, and the added hours that were given to those who remained at the station, an LMA by somebody wouldn't be a surprise.

...But the spurious so-called "KGO-FM transmitter photos" that were put online a while back by the wacky jokesters at KGO were taken on San Bruno Mountain, not up in the Berkeley Hills, weren't they?

Whispered aside: the KBLX transmitter isn't in the Berkeley Hills...
