science said:Isn’t KJLH in Los Angeles Urban AC? Anyway, I think it would be unfortunate for San Francisco – Oakland to loose KBLX. I hate to think that Rhythmic AC KISQ will be the only alternative left. Unfortunately Entercom only has two Urban AC’s in its station portfolio (Greensboro, NC 20.1% Black Demo, and Norfolk, VA 31.6% Black Demo). San Francisco-Oakland is only 7.2% Black Demo which is too low for the Entercoms and Clear Channels of this world. So as others have speculated I would think Entercom will switch formats as soon as they can.
Maybe someone can look at the model that other radio markets with small black demos have done; go the non-commercial radio route (Las Vegas, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Austin for example) Heck, even little Des Moines, Iowa has a non-com Urban AC that uses Cumulus Medias “The Touch” Urban AC format.

Very true kilamanjero. Something thats missing from Los Angeles radio for years. Having a Urban focus station that has diversity in its playlist. They dont use the on air slogan Today R&B or Classixc Soul. KBLX actually sounds like KJLH in its early years with a live 24 hour staff and a local morning show. I know its pointless to some owners its all about what makes money. Entercom has made changes in my hometown Kansas City so if its not making any money changes are coming.kilamanjero said:science said:Isn’t KJLH in Los Angeles Urban AC? The thing is San Francisco-Oakland market is unique in the fact that urban stations don't only target blacks rather blacks, Latinos, and Asians. KMEL is the textbook example of this considering only 4 of their full timers are black and the rest are Latino and Asian. Entercom would have to be foolish just to run after some other audience just because they assume only blacks in the Bay Area listens to urban stations in this market. If that was true KMEL wouldn't be still in existence and KISQ would be a full fledged rhythmic AC rather than an urban oldies station.
