IMO I think it is still the case after 5 years. A lot of the fanbase of The Quiet Storm still claims they play R&B and jazz today, but many of the listeners din't recognize they are a straight R&B hits and oldies station nowadays (a true Urban AC station not like KISS or KHHT, but like other big market R&B stations like WBLS, WHUR, KMJQ, WHQT, WVEE, WDAS, etc.) Am I the only one that recognizes the evolution of KBLX's playlist to the current one? They claim Smooth R&B but they do play some uptempo R&B from the 80s and 90s in the mix (including some New Jack, lol). It's like this: AC in the beginning, URban AC/Jazz hybrid format, and finally Urban AC. I still enjoy the station from time to time, since KISQ and KMEL haven't really done anything snce 2003 or so; at leat KKSF got more leverage on being the only smooth jazz outlet here now. Did the sale of KBLX to Inner City have something to do with the shift in its playlist and format direction while staying on the grown folks radio tip?
