I noticed KBME 790 was completely off the air last night after midnight. I just checked (8:45pm 4/17) and they're running open carrier. Anyone know what's up?
Why not call and ask them?
KPRC 950 and KXYZ 1320 are being combined at the KBME 790 site. Supposedly work is nearing completion so that might explain any down time.Isnt a station or two going to be combining/diplexing with KBME or are they moving? I forget which without looking.. and weekend evenings is the perfect low revenue time to do that
What many posters do not realize is that there are a number of things that can take a station off the air, even if studios, audio gear, the STL and the transmitters are redundantly backed up. Tower work is one of them.KPRC 950 and KXYZ 1320 are being combined at the KBME 790 site. Supposedly work is nearing completion so that might explain any down time.
Because I'm just curious and it's not worth bothering someone at work. Why not call and ask them?

Just saying you would get a more timely answer by reaching out to the source, rather than assuming someone here would be associated with the station and respond back.Because I'm just curious and it's not worth bothering someone at work.
That may be true, but it's still not worth bothering someone at work.Just saying you would get a more timely answer by reaching out to the source, rather than assuming someone here would be associated with the station and respond back.
It is definitely a priority -- KBME is the flagship station of Astros baseball play by play. It's an AM. Probably not high priority.
They're right. But it's easy to assume someone associated with radio would be also on Farsebook because.....they're old."Only old people use Facebook" - my kids
That's because DXer's haven't yet transitioned from Compuserve via acoustic modems, to Farsebook via the Internet.Seriously, I've sent messages/posted on FB when trying to ID a station while DXing, but have never heard back from anyone. I assume that's because monitoring FB is a side job for someone that is busy doing something else.

I wonder though, if I actually called KBME, would anyone answer? On Easter Sunday? Honest question.
At any rate, we've wasted enough time on this. KBME is currently on the air...

All the youngins these days are on that Ticker Tocker making those Vines."Only old people use Facebook" - my kids
I've gotten some good responses on Facebook. Some stations must not check their messenger though.Facebook can be real hit or miss. I've had way better responses from stations then i expected in some cases. Messaged a Colorado Springs FM I heard from Pennsylvania and had to convince them i wasnt kidding but they eventually got it and the reply came within hours.
Usually when you click the message button on FB and it loads messenger, itll tell you how soon they typically reply.
You're alot more likely to get a solid bonafide fact based answer on facebook in a few hours to a day or two vs getting days of speculation here.
Someone could do a TikTok of dead air from KBME. Maybe they’re monitoring that platform. All the youngins these days are on that Ticker Tocker making those Vines.
I don't answer the office phone after business hours. And NEVER ON A HOLIDAY. Call the request / studio line, and ask that. I'll laugh and fall out of my chair as I'm hanging up the phone.
