KBPA's ratings just keep going higher. It's an Adult Hits station known as Bob FM 103.5. Not only is it #1 again, it has more than double the ratings of the next music station. (KUT-FM is #2 in Austin with good ratings too, but it's a non-commercial NPR news and talk station.) KBPA has nearly half a million in cume. No one comes close.
Not many stations in the Top 50 markets have double-digit ratings this high. It makes me wonder, why doesn't anyone go after KBPA directly? While its format is adult hits, it also uses DJs in key dayparts. There is a Jack-FM station with no DJs in Austin but it's on a translator, not a full signal.
Part of Bob's success is due to Austin having no Classic Hits station. And while KLBJ-FM is Classic Rock, it rocks really hard. So Bob-FM may be picking up some Classic Rock fans who don't want a steady diet of AC/DC, Guns N Roses and Stone Temple Pilots.
