KBPI

I've been listening to KBPI a lot lately and although they are up 12+ from spring to summer(2.9 to a 3.4). I'd be interested to see the 18-34 and 25-54 numbers when the fall book comes out. Especially during Uncle Nasty's daypart. He cracks the mic a lot, and when he does he keeps it open a bit too long for my taste. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a great jock, but no jock needs to yap for over 2 and a half minutes at a time multiple times an hour, before and after imaging. I know he's been there for a long time and people love him, but more people may love him if he kept it shorter and didn't play Ace of Spades by Motorhead. That song can't test well. Just an example and just a thought.

He somewhat does a "morning show" in the afternoon. He's had quantifiable success in the market doing what he does.
Great jock? I wouldnt use 'great'. He's not particularly funny or insightful. He's an excellent announcer who has figured out the importance of surrounding yourself with comedians and palatable features that are easy to follow.
His sidekick, the one with the lateral lisp, is un-listenable and a dullard. Uncle Nasty needs to can him and find somebody that's actually funny and not trite and cliched like Matt Need (sp?) is.
I'm also curious about you having a problem that doesnt "research" well. Ick.

I get the formatics of his show. I'm not sure what the measurable difference is between a great jock and an excellent announcer though. I lived in Denver for 10 years and listened to Uncle Nasty evolve over a good portion of that time. Suffice it to say, he's good at his craft.

I guess some of those "palatable features" you speak of are what I am taking issue with. Ten Seconds for example is just brutal! Listening to 3 or 4 callers stumble over themselves after a set up and a wrap, is a minute 30 to two minutes, that invites the listener to switch the station every time. I'd much rather have him give me his perspective or connect with me on a given topic. Use actualities, sound bites, tell me about an artist then play a piece of relevant audio. Sure, use callers too, but one at a time, screen them very carefully and make damn sure they can make a contribution to the show.

What are you curious about as far as music testing? Every station does that. If they are playing music that doesn't test well, guess what? When those songs come on, people change the station or go to the iPod. That's ick for them.
