KBRE 1660 AM 105.7 lp-FM Merced

I noticed KBRE 92.5 gave up there full power FM Active Rock station to start another Spanish Language station, like the Valley needs more, and move it to 1660 AM with a low power 250 watts FM(105.7), when did this happen? Haven't heard 92.5 Merced since The lp-FM in Clovis went on the air.
These FM lp stations simulcasting their AM is really starting to be a trend, a good way to save AM stations in trouble.

Very well said. It is things like this that makes the radio market not good anymore. With formats like Spanish, hip-hop and sports dominating the frequency, our selection of radio formats are limited these days. And it makes it more enjoyable to listen to other formats that are outside the valley (Sacramento, Bay Area, etc.) IF it can be done.

Wow ya know It wasn't all that long ago I remember hearing Mexican people listening to this very type of Music (radio lazer) on AM! I've never heard of anyone listening to Active Rock on AM! (except me and Boombox cause The Bear is better than The Blaze) Guess thats the bigger market now.

Hispanics listened to their favorite music on AM because that was the only place to find it. Once an FM offered the same format or formats, all the listening migrated faster than imaginable.

Back in 1979, in San Juan, none of the FMs offered a salsa format, although there was one on a low power AM. FM in total had about a 16 share. An FM launched with a salsa format, and in its second book had a 33.5 share in a 30 station market; FM overall had grown to over 50 shares in less than three months.

It's all about availability.

Spanish is not a format, it's a language. There are many possible formats in Spanish

The Fresno market is 52% Hispanic and the Merced market is 55% Hispanic. Expect many, many stations to be focused on those listeners, whether through Spanish language programming or with rhythmic / hip hop formats.

I agree about The Bear being better than The Blaze, The Bear has a better and more of a Classic Rock library, mixed with the currents, The Blaze in the last year or so dump many 70s and 80s rock, The Bear Still plays Def Leppard, Poison, and Tesla who are coming in concert in June, The Blaze doesn't play them no more, I found myself listen to 1660 today on deliveries and all those groups played.
