KBRZ 1460 Freeport has filed with the FCC to increase daytime power to 8000 watts and move the transmitter slightly west of West Columia just inside the Brazoria County line about six miles southwest of Brazos Bend State Park. In the middle of no where basically. Coverage is a little hard to determine as the only map is station Allocation map with other stations and their signal strengths. KLVL's Contour Map from their application for 3kW shows their 5mV/m signal going out to the Beltway and 290, down to near The Katy Frwy and Highway 6 and out to Richmond, TX. KBRZ will have the east side of the 5mV/m signal very close to KLVL's. Guess KBRZ will have it's best signal some distance to the west of Houston. There is also a deep null (one of three) towards Brazoria and Galveston Counties, so likely little coverage there. Also very deep null NW and one down the Coast.
Wish they would have included a full coverage map of the station with signal strength contours, and coverage area, along with the allocation map which is a cluster [EDIT], as is normally done so would have a better idea of Houston coverage. My guess is [EDIT] at best.
Nighttime KBRZ goes back to their antenna site in Freeport and go non-directional at the 214 watts they are now using.
Chances are this upgrade will mean little to Houston. The western suburbs out towards Hwy 99 and north should have decent coverage.
