According to Allaccess.com...

Oldies WWKB-A (KB 15)/BUFFALO drops the music and shifts to liberal Talk as "BUFFALO'S LEFT CHANNEL" with a lineup that includes JONES' BILL PRESS 6-9a, JONES' STEPHANIE MILLER 9a-Noon, former WGR-A/BUFFALO and KLAC-A/LOS ANGELES host LESLIE MARSHALL Noon-3p, JONES' ED SCHULTZ 3-7p, and WOR RADIO NETWORK's LIONEL 10p-1a and JOEY REYNOLDS (holding over from the previous format) overnights.

The station flipped at 3p ET MONDAY and is taking on CITADEL's crosstown WHLD-A, which last week announced its own brokered liberal Talk format featuring AIR AMERICA RADIO's AL FRANKEN and RANDI RHODES plus local shows and programs from PACIFICA RADIO.

And, at least tonight, they're filling that 7-10 hole with a repeat of Stephanie Miller.

Is the Leslie Marshall show going to be local?
______________

And the liner, heard down here in my car in Northeast Ohio, promoted her show in both time slots. I don't know how permanent the night repeat is going to be.

I'd assume so, unless there's a national syndication deal for her that I haven't heard about. Of course, she has history in the market.

we can pick it up wayy in virginia just outside of charlotesville, and locally we did have lionel here but on saturdays only on wrva before they (in there boneheaded wisdom) dumped it

Do you think this format change will effect WHTT as they are now considered the only "oldies" station in Buffalo?

WHTT inherits nearly all of what had been 'KB's audience up to yesterday, which might not be huge (they never quite got to a 2 share) but could send it past second place WBEN and may put it within striking distance of market leading WYRK. Citadel must be thrilled...and so, I'm sure, is Bob Iger, whose Disney organization now effectively holds majority control of Citadel.

Entercom may well have made the stupidest strategic move of the year by helping a competing station cluster with this gambit. Assuming Citadel then goes through with its previously announced deal with Ray Marks to program WHLD with a mix of Air America and local programming, the impact on WBEN could be still greater and more negative. People who'd been listening to WBEN because it was the only issue-talk game in town now have not one, but two alternative places to go---and Entercom has nothing to do with the one that's likely to offer more appealing programming.

Correct. Leslie Marshall has been a fill-in hostess on WBEN from time to time, doing the show in studio. However, the informed speculation is her KB show will not be local. Perhaps ISDN?

As to the 7-10 p.m. shift, that may remain the re-play slot for Stephanie Miller. KB has a contract to air University at Buffalo Bulls basketball games which usually are played at night.

Perhaps the long term plan is to move lefty Ron Dobson over to the 7 - 10 slot.

Doubt it. Dobson, who really defies description as either a lefty or a rightie, was brought in for two reasons; 1) to break the monotony of right-of-center programming on the cluster's main news/talker and avoid it being totally typecast with a partisan slant that polls indicate is falling out of favor with the public, and 2) to try to resuscitate a daypart that was once a major cash cow for WBEN, but has been virtually worthless ever since Chris "Bulldog" Parker was shifted over to WGR and the daypart on WBEN went from local sports talk to syndicated babble.

I think he will make headway toward both goals for WBEN, although all this competition from both Citadel and in-house for talk listeners may somewhat dilute his contribution.

Leslie Marshall via ISDN, End of 'KB Format

Confirmed by this morning's Buffalo News:

http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20060207/1018716.asp

"The station's new lineup includes a show from Leslie Marshall, who was a host on WGR-AM in the early 1990s. Marshall's show will cover local topics and take local callers, though she will be doing the show from California."

No offense to the fine folks in Western NY, but I don't know if I can blame her for not moving from California to Buffalo in early February. :D

It's a good move...gives the station a "local" show at nominal cost. (And that's what it's about, really.)

As far as the article's talk about Danny N. and Tom D., and how it played out...well, they deserved better, IMHO. I know they claim they've been working on this for a year. I can believe that, but I can't believe the "rush" to go on the air Monday wasn't prompted by a need to get a jump on the other station. The 'KB jocks should have been allowed to make a classy exit this week, at very least. If 1530 in Cincinnati could do it, why couldn't 'KB?
