KBSG HAS A NEW PD

I have got to say that I have been listening for the past few days and the station is sounding MUCH better. So far, 60s and 70s and no 80s (at least that I heard), and NOT the same old tired twenty oldies either! Crossing my fingers that it continues.

Dave Logan and Bonneville programming VP, Greg Solk may be getting ready to modify KBSG into a "Drive" format similar to Solk's Chicago Classic Hits success. They need to do something to get KBSG going again. Is there room for someone besides KJR & KZOK in the classic rock format? Mr. Solk has been in town talking to former & current KMTT folks and others. And the Mountain has dropped most of the 70's rock from their new KINK-copy sound, so maybe Bonneville is thinking about something that takes advantage of the heritage music and images that the Mountain has left behind lately. A 70’s & 80’s, adult focused Triple A? The former Entercom properties might have fun taking on one of the old company's vulnerable stations. Mike West, Shawn Stuart and others are available. Others might be ready to move. And, both Logan and Solk are former KFOG - San Francisco program directors and have experience with the Triple A format.

Interesting speculation. KFOG is very strong station and delivers solid billing in NY. It is very different from KINK. I think the two stations would be complimentary. Given the strength of KZOK and KMTT in the sales friendly 25-54 demo a DRIVE type format would be strong. The DRIVE is not a 12+ station, but delivers core 25-54 numbers leaning male. Very sales friendly. Oldies has trouble in national rep business. AAA and HOT/AC tend to be the power ratio stations along with News/Talk. which is probably playing into any decision at Bonneville.

Last Power ratio numbers from Inside Radio:
Hot/AC: 1.9
News Talk: 1.7
AC: 1.5
AAA: 1.5
Classic Rock 1.2

Urban and Rhythmic CHR had the lowest power ratios. Oldies is now under a 1.0 too.

OOPS! Spoke too soon. Heard Irene Cara "Flashdance" yesterday. Didn't enjoy that. Come on! Stick to 60s and 70s! Let KJR FM conitinue to go in the crapper with the 80s and early 90s. I continue my chant to Mr. Logan...."think K-HITS, think K-HITS, think K-HITS!"

Where does Country fit in there?

Country is around a one power ratio. In other words, we gotta earn our ratings and dollars by gettin BIG numbers. We can't sit on our butts and deliver two shares and hope to win. We do it the old fashioned way wiht ratings!!!!!
