KBTL - all beatles radio 920

Although it was called KBTL, it was still KYST as ID'd at the top of the hour. It never was legally KBTL. I remember it wasn't very long.

From what I recall it lasted just over a year, about the same length of time when it was tried a little over ten years ago on 104.9 in D/FW.

There really WAS a KBTL, all Beatles, back in the early 70's. It was in Odessa, TX. It didn't last very long.

Yeah...I Remember the station in Dallas was a rimshot out of Pilot Point,Tx and they called it Fab 104.....(104.9) it was fun to listen to.

Somewhere in my vast archive of uncataloged stuff, I have a tape of the 20-minute loop KYST/KBTL played repeatedly for two days prior to launch introducing the all-Beatles format. Also, I recall the former KRLD-FM in Dallas went all-Beatles one summer in the late 70s/early 80s (?) taking liberties with their call letters using the monikor "Radio Love Dallas"...

Give me a while...I'll try to dig up the tape and digitize it...

Actually it was called Fab 105. Not only did it have all the Beatles music, but also later work by the individual Beatles, and other artists covers of Beatles tunes.

Somewhere in a box I have a t-shirt from the "Beatlefest" sponsored by "KBTL" held at the Richmond Arms hotel I think... They had Beatles cover bands and dart tournaments and beer as I remember. (I was too young to drink at the time). Heck, that had to be '80 or '81 as my bad memory tells me... The film festival was my favorite part. My dad and I had alot of fun at that thing. We were both Beatle freaks, but you could only listen to that station for so long. Although they did play a large amount of solo material. Remember the "No, No" song from Ringo???? --their slogan was "punch us up when you want to hear Beatles' music." implying that they knew you couldn't listen all the time...

Who remembers the top-40 format on KYST before KTBL? The AM signal was horrible, especially at night. But in the summer of 82, if you wanted top 40, it was KYST and the new 79-Q. It's a shame that format couldn't have been on FM. They had some of the old KRBE jocks, C.C. McCartney, I know was one, maybe Roger W.W.W.W Garrett, I cannot remember. I know KYST was the station that first played "Love My Way" by the P-Furs and "The One Thing" by INXS during the MTV era.
