KBTX DTV (Bryan) a regular in Houston now?

Visiting my parents yesterday I happened to do a rescan ;D on their RCA converter box and noticed I was able to bring in 3.1 and 3.2 (I believe their DTV allocation is at 50?) but was getting them no problem. Weird thing is with the RCA brand usually anything below 35% has breakups but KBTX was a steady 15% and picture perfect, and I'm talking from 7p til 11p and again this morning.

Will they be a regular in the north part of Houston? I know their analog barely made it to the Jersey Village area but I even pulled them in out in Clear Lake a week ago on their digital. While I don't expect to pull them in from their I was wondering if anyone knew about the northern part of Houston. While it's not anything special really, just CBS and WB I'm sure from time to time they have some programs that differ from the Houston stations.

Thanks

I haven't pulled in KBTX analog or digital since I moved to Sugar Land several years ago. It would come in, sometimes pretty clear when I lived on the north side.

The KBTX website has a blog with updates on the new (RF) Channel 50 digital facility: http://www.kbtx.com/blogs/mikewright/38912574.html

Appears they fired up full power recently, and northwest Harris County is well within the coverage area.

I always got a reasonably decent signal from the old Channel 3 analog on a portable set at my Cy-Fair location. Sometimes KBTX would run different NFL games than KHOU.

Reception should get better in the northwest part of Houston metro after June 12, when adjacent channels 49 and 51 will then be vacant.

And on the southside many should be pulling in Victoria as well, just not as often. Again last night I was able to view 25.1 thru 25.4.

KBTX is planning to mimicking the dual-HD thing that parent KWTX does. There won't be any room for subchannels besides the CBS and CW they have now.

In Eastern Galveston County, I was picking up KAVU also last night - too bad that KVCT and KHOU will be on the same frequency post 6/12.

To me, it makes sense to "bunch" smaller markets closer together frequency-wise - put KAVU & KVCT on 14 & 15 - a UHF-only antenna would be all that would be needed in Victoria, plus I would think that a combined 14/15 transmission plant would be easier to maintain (could they share a transmission antenna without causing signal loss/impedance matching/transmission line issues?).

I know this isn't the best place to ask the question, but in theory, couldn't a market run DTV 7/8/9/10/11/12/13 all from one site? Dallas has 8/9/11 (post transition) and Waco has 8/9 post transition... It would simplify receiving antennas in a market and put everyone on equal footing, as the FCC did with some of the All UHF markets back in the 50s(?)

Mexico is doing this clustering of DTVs. Mexico City has 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 48, 49, 50. I believe this works best if all signals are equal, i.e. all at the same power from the same tower. The US doesn't have the kind of centralized ownership needed to pull this off.
