KBUC 830 Cibolo

Anyone remember this station? I know its license was long since deleted, but I vaguely remember this station from about 15 years ago. Anyone know what happened to it?

I remember the station from the early 90's. I'm looking at my Broadcasting Yearbook from 1990 and it shows KBUC licensed to Cibolo and owned by Raquel Mendoza. It was not on the air as of 12/31/1989. It seemed like it was on a couple of years (and may have actually shown up in the ratings) and then it was gone. My 1994 M Street shows no sign of an 830 out of Cibolo. Usually a station that went dark was noted in the M Street Directory; unfortunately, I can't fill in that blank (I'd like to know as well).

I haven't tried 830 during the daylight hours lately (I'll try it on my truck tomorrow), but I think a station out of Piedras Negras or near there with the calls XEIK(??) resides on the 830 frequency in this area (this area being South Central Texas) these days.

Not a clue my boy. The only station at 830 that I would ever strive to receive is WCCO way up north which is a RARE occurance this far south. My trips up to the metroplex normally offer me a far easier fetch of WCCO.

KBUC 830 was a 250 watt station, and I believe it was highly directional. I know it referred to itself as "Radio Recuerdo" for at least a brief time. However, I don't think it was the Recuerdo like Univision is running but a Spanish religious format. Its license has long sense been returned to the FCC, but I'm not sure why it was returned or what happened to it. Given that large market signals are hard to come by, even crappy AM's tend to at least find buyers even if not for a high price.

I recall hearing it on a few trips to SA circa 1990. Seemed to have a decent signal within the city...but I can't remember if they had any sort of nighttime authorization. Co-channel interference would have killed them at night, anyway, not to mention potential slopover/het from WBAP.

You are right, the Mexican you hear on 830 is XEIK in Piedras Negras, 5kw.

Prior to the 1980's WCCO actually put a decent signal into Central Texas at night, but then they were all by themselves on the frequency. They did get a bit of a het from the (now long gone) Radio Belize transmitter on 834, which also was a regular here.
