KBUD

Does anyone know why the FCC went against their own rules and assigned a K call in Mississippi to KBUD Sardis?

This was sold at auction as a new station. Contrary to what some may think, the Commission does make errors...if I am wrong on this call, someone please enlighten
me with facts, please. Thanks JBI

And this has what to do with the price of catfish in the delta? ;D

Considering the complexity of many of the technical issues handled by the FCC, it's pretty disturbing to see that they don't seem capable of telling which side of the Mississippi River Mississippi is on. I realize this could have been a simple error by a bureaucrat, but it seems like someone should have caught it before it was acted upon.

A year or two ago new channel 34 in Magee/Jackson MS was awarded the callsign KRBJ-TV. AFAIK, the calls would have stuck, but owner Roberts Broadcasting requested and recieved a change before the station signed on. A new Fm station signed on in Michigan some years ago with a "K" callsign, and continues to use that callsign today. In that case, the FCC acknowledged they had made a mistake but allowed the station to keep the calls. Cool...

If somebody were to file a formal complain with the FCC, they would rescind the call-sign. I've seen it done.

Remember, most of the people at the FCC are clerical workers hired as a result of EEO quotas. They have no idea where the Mississippi River is or what it represents.

my best guess is that those are the calls that Dr. Flinn asked for, and got 'em.

he's got the legal beagles and the $$$ for stuff like that.

So, what's the format of this station? Based on the call letters, I would hope it's "Stoner Rock". I bet they have cool bumper stickers and other shwag.

So much for selling sponsorship of the top-of-the-hour ID to the local Anheuser-Busch distributor...
