Northern California KBVE Boonville 107.9

So what is KBVE playing? It does cover Ukiah pretty well on the coverage maps. This should not be confused with Oldies 107.9 which was K300AS in Santa Rosa, since moved to 93.3 as K227DZ, an HD2 relay of KHTH - still using the former ID packages.

The 107.9 translator (K300AO, Santa Rosa) carrying an oldies format will sign off for good tonight.

"Santa Rosa radio station Oldies 107.9 is going off the air at midnight Friday night, which means listeners will have to go elsewhere for the Beatles, Supremes and Beach Boys. . ..According to announcements made on air Thursday, Oldies 107.9 is going dark due to the “re-allocation of (its) radio signal by the (Federal Communications Commission).”

This is a result of KBVE Boonville's recent sign on.

The website with audio is (was) here: Listen Live

The target market is Ukiah.
The population of Ukiah, CA. Is 16,073 +985 wow that's 17,057 with how many fm stations serving the combined markets of Mendocino and Lake counties. The population of the two combined counties is less than 200,000. Good luck making any revenue with all the stations there. The ownership groups of all these stations have a rough time ahead. I pray this economy gets better for them.

Well, here are the locals (and their formats) that I know of (I'm sure I'm missing something):

KNTI 99.5 (Lakeoprt) AAA
KXBX-FM 98.3 (Lakeport) CHR
KXBX-AM 1270 (Lakeport) Classic Hits
KWNE 94.5 (Ukiah) CHR
KUNK 92.7 (?) AC
KUKI 103.3 (Ukiah) Country
KQPM 105.9 (Ukiah) Country
KMKX 91.9 (Willits) Classic Rock

So whatever their format is going to be, it probably wouldn't be country or CHR, because we already have two of each and they wouldn't be very competitive. Classic hits are covered too (KXBX-AM). There's some room for AC, maybe, or perhaps some oldies (haven't had oldies locally since KXBX-AM was a MOYL affiliate back in the late 90s and 2000s).

On a related note in Santa Rosa (to the south)... This note in a technical statement filed today:

"This technical statement and attached exhibits were prepared on behalf of Amaturo Sonoma Media
Group, LLC. licensee of translator K300AO, Facility ID #148020, fill-in translator for FM radio station
KHTH (FM), 269B1, Santa Rosa, CA. Facility ID #22890. A new co-channel station in Boonville, CA with
call sign: KBVE Facility ID: 762434 recently completed construction that displaced K300AO, therefore this
application is being filed to change and modify the existing antenna in the same licensed location for
K300AO to provide contour protection too and allow for the continued operation of K300A0. "

It's a two-element Scala 2X CA2-FM-CP (¼ wave offset between the bays) circular polarized array . This offset produces a deep null on the backside.
