KBZT needs help.

They are at 1.7 overall so far for the holiday book for shares.
Maybe introduce some gold based music like 1 or 2 within the hour. Just a suggestion. I remember when 91x ruled the airwaves over San Diego now they two need help as well.

The main problem is that San Diego has a majority of Hispanic listening to the radio. 20 years ago it was mainly white. Different taste between White and Hispanic audience. Makes a real difference in taste so far as alternative music goes.

Yep, the old "hard wired for rhythmic" Latino brain ...

That is nowhere near true.

First, you can't use the term "white" to define what you are trying to post about: you need to say "non-Hipanic white" as nearly all Hispanics (not a race) classified on the Census as "white".

The market is only 34% Hispanic, but it is 47% non-Hispanic white.

The total listening to Spanish language is about 13 shares (or 13% in non-radio language). The majority of Hispanic listening is to general market radio stations.

You are correct, though: Hispanics have never been a strong source for alternative rock listening. But the percentage of non-Hispanic whites that listen to that music on the radio has declined everywhere.

Yeah. I programmed a Spanish language rock station in Latin America and for the entire 5 years I worked on it, it was overwhelmingly #1 in its market. And it is still top 5...

I would blow up KBZT and go with a soft ac format like sunny FM had until they went to classic hits. They did well with soft hits still trying to figure out why they moved to another format

Ok then what should KBZT do to get better shares?

KBZT is not a single station. It's part of a cluster. The owner of that cluster owns the #1 & #2 stations in the market, both with older targeted formats. They need to aim young and do what's best for the cluster. They program certain stations for shares, and other stations for demos. This is a station aimed at younger male demos.

At least in SoCal, Latin Alternative is available on the airwaves in two places that I know. SoCal Sound 88.5 in the LA area on an HD channel 24/7. And XHMORE 98.9 in TJ came back on the air recently and still has their Latin Alt format. Can't tell you whether or not they are streaming.

Latin Alt is big in Argentina but has spread elsewhere, including Mexico.

And 98.9 was not really "alternative" in its prior incarnation... it was just "rock en español" which can run from Panda to Caifanes to Alex Lora.

Latin Alt is not big in Argentina. I believe I should know, as the originator and long-time programmer of Mega 98.3 in Buenos Aires...

Latin Alternative is considered a subgenre of Rock en Espanol in which a survey showed 68% of respondents listen to it on a frequent or regular basis. It's experiencing the most growth in Rock en Espanol

But how long ago was that when you were in Argentina?

It's very hard to distinguish "alternative" with Rock en Español as most artists wander between more than one style by US standards. Since there are very few only Spanish language rock station in all Latin America, the few that exist tend to play all genres and a lot of classic rock cuts.

Many stations that play mostly rock in English will add occasional Spanish rock cuts, and they don't distinguish genres. The problem is that there is only limited production of any rock in Spanish, and one can't specialize in a singe

Actual visit, just prior to the pandemic. Video conferences, several so far this year. We are also renewing our desire to purchase a second home either in Bariloche, Mendoza or around the Pinamar area. I've been visiting and spending time in Argentina since the later 60's, and have more than once run into duty free shops saying, "you can't buy here... it's only for foreigners".

Here's a picture I took when we filmed one of the Mega TV spots years ago...

El Bahiano from Los Pericos. And me.

The kind of music called "new wave" in the article is not really "alternative rock" but just a progression of "rock nacional". Keep in mind that the reason Mega 98.3 became the highest rated station in Bs. As. instantly was that it only played rock by Argentine artists... but it played all kind of rock, dating back to 1967 and current songs as well.

And my personal favorite, also taken by me at a TV spot filming...

Yes, it is Charlie.

Not going to happen. Audacy owns that audience already. They don't need another frequency to dilute it.
That's correct. If they were to do anything like that, they would soften the sound on KyXy, and I don't think they want to do that. I don't know why 98.1 decided to drop the soft AC that was doing well for Classic Hits, but they saw the opportunity and went for it, and it pretty much paid off. They didn't really lose their place in the market, aside from some slipping every now and then, and most of that was from competition that arrived in the form of Big FM.

Also 94.1 had The Breeze automated soft AC format from iHeartRadio on HD2 and they turned that off last year. One thing I don't understand from Audacy is why Classic Alternative is on KyXy HD2 and not KBZT HD2 or 3. It MIGHT be because as I understand it, HD3 comes with a sacrifice of the sound quality for music formats - if not for that, I would have moved the Classic Alternative format to one of the HDs for KBZT and move the comedy over to one of KyXy's HDs and then maybe add a KyXy Classics Soft AC channel to another of their HDs, but like I said if they move the Classic Alternative format to KBZT then either it or Bob Radio would get a lower quality sound on HD3 and that wouldn't be good.... so maybe it needs to stay the way it is and Audacy doesn't give San Diego a soft AC.

Threads like this make me wonder if a radio geek was able to get ahold of a station and program it how they want, what it owuld sound like over the air and how long it would last.

One example is WABC in NY. Any US citizen can buy a radio station. All it takes is money and desire.

That radi ogeek has money, most dont.. that was ,my point
