KBZT

Will KBZT be changing soon? They're at an all time low in the ratings. what are the possible formats they could change to. Maybe CHR with 24/7 live and local on air personalities Real San Diego radio? Or a WMXJ type station? Same company LFM All local.

One can only hope... ANYTHING would be better than what they play now.

They have a pretty good mix of music when Mikey's not on. I think that Mikey's a part of the problem at FM 94/9. The station had relatively low overhead until Mikey and his staff came in. The biggest problem is that FM 94/9's audience in the morning doesn't match the audience in the middays and afternoons. The audience becomes alienated and tunes out to their iPod or goes to 91X or KPRI. To be honest, San Diego doesn't really need another rock station, but it's there for a reason. They can really fix things up by going music intensive in the morning or having a local personality host a music intensive show. Drop niche shows like Big Sonic Heaven and "lamestream" their playlist a little bit. Go more like 91X, while adding new music like FM 94/9 does.

There have only been 2 periods in 94.9's history that it was successful and a real contender. Y95 and KBEST, obviously San Diego needs 2 oldies stations like San Diego needs 2 Alternative stations. It's time that LF cut its losses and sell it. 94.9 has been albetros for LF for decades.

If KBZT were to go back to an Oldies format, they would completely kill Walrus. BCA has zero money to compete and in one book KBZT would own the that share. Combine that with KSON numbers and you'd own the mkt in demos. Hey just a thought, not likely to happen but a thought.

Well it went from KBEST to FM 94/9 because KBEST couldn't make numbers. 94/9 did well at the outset and dethroned 91X, then they started messing with it. Lincoln Financial would sell the entire cluster if they could, in a heartbeat.

The oldies market in San Diego has never been programmed properly. But even if it were it is not a demo that companies are excited to jump on.

Due to 105.7's extremely poor signal, if an oldies station were positioned right (and not named after a nasty smelly animal), with the Johnny Mann jingles (basically a carbon clone of KRTH 101.1) then the Walrus could be destroyed, then we would have an FM simulcast of a sports station again.

But LF/JP has a bad taste in their mouth for oldies/classic hits due to VERY bad PDs at KBEST ruining the station. By the way John it didnt go from KBEST to FM 94.9 it was an 80's station for about a year or two ran by Mike Bushey.

Just saw this on SDRadio's twitter feed: SDRadio: All ears will be on San Diego FM 94.9 at 5 pm today. #Hmmmmm
