Reno/Carson City KBZZ and K245DC Silent due to Vandalism

From FCC Filing https://enterpriseefiling.fcc.gov/d...&id=25076ff388ea74e001892d1eeb5e16c2&goBack=N

"On June 29, 2023 the KBZZ(AM) transmitter site was vandalized. The AC wiring was stripped
and stolen, as was the air handling system. The AM station has been silent since that time, and
will remain so until the wiring and air handling can be replaced. A full six months of silent STA
is requested, out of an abundance of caution.

KBZZ is retransmitted on FM translator K245DC Carson City. Under the terms of the K245DC
license, the translator must be taken silent during the duration of the AM station’s silence.
Therefore, a separate request for silent STA is also being filed for the translator.

(KBZZ has also been retransmitted on FM translator K223AL Reno. The K223AL input is not
restricted to KBZZ, and the input has been changed in order to keep K223AL on the air. An
input change notification will be filed.)

While walking in Dayton on my Sangean DT-200X

I'm hearing 92.5 the hog, I don't hear 1270

Why is the translator still on?

It's fed by an HD subchannel now i seem to recall reading

They are back on air.

"Resumption Notification KBZZ(AM) 1270 kHz Sparks, NVK245DC Carson City, NVOn June 29, 2023 the KBZZ(AM) transmitter site was vandalized. The AC wiring was stripped and stolen, as was the air handling system. The AM station fell silent that time, and had to remain so until the wiring and air handling could be replaced. A request for Silent STA request was filed and granted.

KBZZ is retransmitted on FM translator K245DC Carson City. Under the terms of the K245DC license, the translator was taken silent during the duration of the AM station’s silence.

Therefore, a separate request for silent STA was also filed and granted for K245DC.The KBZZ transmitter site has now been repaired, and both KBZZ and K2425DC have resumed operation with their licensed facilities."

Methhead thieves should have fingers chopped off. AM, FM, and TV broadcast sites are prime targets for copper theft. HVAC, ground systems, and transmission lines cost so much more than the $4/LB these scumbags get at the scrapyard.

New STA.

"After repairs, KBZZ and K2425DC resumed operation with their licensed facilities on October 4,
2023, and resumption notifications were filed. Operation of KBZZ started out okay, but became
progressively worse. It became apparent that the repairs were insufficient, and the two stations
were taken silent again on October 11, 2023, having operated for eight days.1
Silent STA for both stations is therefore requested again, while further repairs to the KBZZ
transmitter site are effected."

Are there any updates on this?

For many months now, there's been no trace of KBZZ on 1270 (just a weak but listenable KVMI at night and traces of KXBX at day). Are they still temporarily on 1230?

I don't know how long this has been so, but as of this evening (March 31, about 7:20 PM Pacific), 92.5 The Hog is back on the air on 1270 AM, with fair to good reception at my QTH in the East SFBA, east of the hills (NV signals seem to come in well here, especially at night; before it went silent last March, KDWN boomed in almost like a local at times).

If I can get KBZZ here in the East Bay, you should be able to get it in Carmichael fairly easily (QRM and other noise notwithstanding, of course). Your distance from KSFB should help too (it's really close here and tends to splatter onto 1270, making weaker signals quite hard to hear, although that splatter has been mostly absent lately. I wonder why?)
