KCAQ Oxnard, Now Serving The Antelope Valley With A Strong Signal

Last Friday July18 while parked in the Jack In The Box parking lot just under the AM 610 towers on Ave I, I happened by 104.7 to find KCAQ Oxnard with a killer signal. Today I was behind the Clear Channel studios on K-4 scanning the dial again to find KCAQ with a very strong signal, FCC records show no boosters in the area, and even with 50KW, Lancaster is way beyond the 54dbu service contour. Could Gold Coast have fast tracked a booster to cover the Antelope Valley? the signal of 106.3 their sister station licensed to Lancaster is in the mud by comparison.

I doubt it. In the past around summertime I've been able to pick up KCAQ around Southern California, even as far Inland as Redlands and Hemet and as far south as San Diego... and south of the border.

Hopefully one of our fine engineers who visits our board can elaborate why this is the case much better than I can.

Just a guess but maybe they are on with the 50kw CP east of Santa Paula and not the licensed 4.5kw south of Santa Paula. The CP site despite having a lower HAAT is higher above sea level. True you are picking up something less than the 54db contour. A Langley-Rice most likely would show some reception in the pockets where you picked it up. When I lived in Idyllwild in the early 90's KCAQ came in like a local. 104.7 KDES just a few "air miles" away doesn't come in as it is blocked by Mt. San Jacinto

I remember KCAQ coming in really stong all the way up the 14 and into Palmdale... could never really hear it in Lancaster though. Interesting.

Have Q104.7 relocate their transmitter and turn on their boosters?

Because I can hear Q104.7 loud and clear in Hollywood and West End.

I can hear Q104.7 all over LA... pretty strong for 5,100 watts. 8)

They're screaming into Mid Wilshire now. Looks like I'm going to need to find another frequency for my XM.
