KCBD LUBBOCK GETS NEW SET

The sky is falling! Armageddon is upon us!
KCBD is getting a new news set.

Yes, really!
(Word has it that the old set was getting ready to walk, and is now looking for work with Don Imus).

Seriously though, props to KCBD management for finally taking care of business. I just hope it's a professional, modern looking job and not another "guys with hammers, nails, and a store bought desk" job.
Not exactly sure how old the KCBD news set was, but they were using it when I first visited Lubbock in early 1998. And judging from the use of their music package, I'm guessing its been around a good 13 years.

And I just hope the news set is not the only thing they replace.
That music sounds like it was recorded off an old WCBS TV cart tape.

A cutting edge news team deserves a cutting edge look, imo!

Sounds like they're finally moving into present day. I have already have told my experience watching KCBD before so I'm glad to some progress is being made, considering its a Raycom station.

I don't remember your post, refresh my memory?
Either way, I'm still pessemistic that anything will change. Their graphics system still seems antiquated, and why do I have a feeling that their new set will just be rebuild of their old one?

And that awful techno music that just doesn't fit has got to go!

UPDATE: KCBD LUBBOCK GETS NEW SET

KCBD debuted a new set yesterday, (4/25/07), designed by the same people who bring you the set for WJAR, WBZ, etc...

They also have switched from the Total News package from Non-stop music (once used by WCBS TV New York) to the NBC Flagship packaged (used by, guess who? WNBC), by Gari Communications.

Also, note that this gives Gari Communications a Monopoly on News music in the Lubbock TV market, as all 4 network stations are currently using packages by Frank Gari Communicaions.

It also means that KAMC 28 now has the oldest newset.

How's that for trivia?

Actually WNBC uses their own custom package composed by Rampage Music. In fact, they've never used a Gari package.

Yeah, they can update all they want but it will still be Abner and Karen and John Robison. YUCK !!

Lubbock TV stations just really stink it up compared to their Dallas counter-parts. At least you would think they might get some good college graduates from Tech once in a while, like Emily Jones who is now on FSSW Network.

Actually,
If AIRC, Jones was heavily not liked as a sportscaster here. I suspect she was happy to go.

I know that Dallas and San Antonio are bigger budget productions than small market Lubbock. However, KCBD and KLBK are much improved from what they were 6 months ago. Shinny new sets are just set, but they are a start.

In other news today, KAMC announced that Bill Maddox is comming out or retirement and retaking his old seat. Randy Lynn is gone, but I don't know where he was going. I think he'd be a good fit anywhere!

Randy is off to Tyler...also look for him in some reality show coming in the next year with a theme of "so you want to be a news anchor" to it.

I don't know where you got your info about Emily Jones, but I think it is dead wrong. She has to be one of the nicest people you could ever want to meet. But, I am sure she was happy to go, she is in a MUCH better place and a MUCH better job, no doubt.

I understand that Dallas and San Antonio are much bigger markets, no doubt; but man, Lubbock and other smaller markets seem to lag soooooo far behind, it isn't even funny.

Is Bill going to be on oxygen when he delivers the news on KAMC? That guy is at least 75 years old. He has been on TV forever. Speaking of KAMC, someone in another forum I belong to says that Ron Roberts has to be one of the most difficult guys to work with over at that station. Why?

Hey Garret,

People loved Emily here. Hot chick doing sports? Whaddya talkin' 'bout? However, she did not get a lot of props from the male sports guys at the different shops around town and even in her own shop for that matter. Many of those guys thought, well they didn't think she knew a lick about what she was doing. Show'd them huh? She's ON FOX SW...Jeff Lillicotch for example, he's at Fox SW too....Producing.

Ron Roberts is one of the WORST people I've ever worked with in my 15 year career in Television News! When I was an intern, he introduced an anchor candidate to everyone in the newsroom, except me, a point which was brought to his attention by the reporters who were sitting there. As a producer there, he was the news director (yes and chief meterologist) [EDIT] And it's just not in the newsroom environment. I've had friends tell me that he's rude to store clerks and customer service operators, and think since he's on TV, they should bow down to him. I know several years ago, customer service trainees at a cell phone company were WARNED about taking calls from Roberts. I can't say exactly what I think of him, but UGH, he's horrible to work with.

[EDIT-inflammatory]
