Too late...
You ran a promo announcing an HD Newscast is coming.
Mystery solved.
I didn't expect Lubbock to ever get an HD Newscast, so Raycom must be spending some bucks here.
Now if only someone besides KOHM would invest in HD radio, although I'm not sure it's worth the money.
I'm not sure if I even want HD radio to come to Lubbock. I had one in my car for awhile. I really am not impressed with the technology. The signal drops out all the time. HD-2 stations aren't all that impressive in most markets. I'd rather just plug in my iPod or listen to Pandora on my phone through my car speakers. Would love to see scrolling RDS to come on more stations. I've ranted about this before but I really hope to see the radio stations start scrolling title/artist information. NONE of the stations do that here. The smallest of markets have been doing that for years...such as Midland, Clovis, NM...and even Hobbs does it on a couple stations. I think that would be much cooler than HD Radio.fredcantu said:HD Radio doesn't sound like a good investment in small markets since there are fewer bodies-- therefore fewer possible HD radio-- in the coverage area.
fredcantu said:Equipment does get replaced eventually. That's why the FCC gave the stations several years to prepare their transmitters for digital broadcasting. That let them spread out the cost.
The HD newscasts will probably start the way they did in the major markets. Some stations had an HD switcher and one HD studio camera, the rest of the equipment was still analog. They phased in more HD elements as they upgraded studio equipment over time.

WHEN ALREADY?
I think this is week 3 of "Break Room 11 News." They might as well have borrowed my living room... What are they building over there, the Eiffel Tower?
For this much work, Abner better be able to reach through the screen and give me toast when this is done.
