KCBD Lubbock's news set

Please tell me that I am not the only one who thinks their news set looks bad.

Why in the world don't they udate it? With all the time that they have been number 1, they must have made enough money to do something new?

No, Trust me! It's bad! They have this sharp edged silver and black desk, shaped kind of like an L, but not exactly. They have these two large TV screens, one behind the anchors, and another to the right. AND NOTHING SHINES!
Ugly ugly ugly! The weather center is this little fake looking office set up to the left, like somebody pulled up a trailer and built it in. It might have been ok for 15 minutes in 1988, but not in 2005! Also, they have been using the same music package for over 10 years, you can listen to it here, and it does not match their graphics. The best chance of seeing their desk might be to view the video links at kcbd.com

That would be the old KZTV. While still #3 (I believe), they have improved enormously since being sold a few years back. They even have a website (with video) at www.kztv10.com

Looks as if the post-walter furley era has been good to ch. 10. ;)

The late Charles Kuralt remarked in the early 1980s that all a sensible person needs is an old wooden desk and chair at which to sit and do the news. He was addressing the elaborate sets and all the trappings from which many news programs originate. Of course, some stations before then and since devote little money to building Hollywood-type news sets, instead having their anchors all but leaning up against an old refrigerator wheeled in from a cooking show kitchen. So even elaborately-designed contemporary news sets don't always score well with viewers.

However, in 2005, I don't think "an old refrigerator" is what KCBD intends. In a day and age when TV stations and networks are promoting "HD" all over the place, doesn't it make sense to put some money into your news set? Karin and Abner may be the longest running anchor team in the country, but that doesn't mean they have to have to oldest set in the country. Quite the contrary, it seemst to me that they should be rewarded with something nice to do the news from, and nice music to match.

And, if you ask me, it might be a nice thing for Lubbock to be proud of as well. Imagine when people come here from other places, and see what the number 1 newscast looks like? I'd be embarrassed... In fact, I am!

By the way, "an old wooden desk and chair" would probably be an improvement on what KCBD puts on the air... And that's not including the sync rolls (yes, really).
