KCBP 95.5 Westley/Modesto On The Air

Spending some time in the Amador upcountry. Driving back from fireworks celebration in Valley Springs last night, I noticed 95.5, instead of being a scratchy KNEV out of Reno, was running Pacifica programs. Later heard an ID for KCBP.

Doing further research, they must have just signed on and it appears they are not broadcasting full power from their hilltop site west of Modesto. They are running low power from a homeowner’s site in Westley...which means it will probably be a whopper of a signal for a class A station (I’m assuming a brand new sign-on).

I am up at around 3000 ft “facing” the valley. It was a bit of a night for tropo as I was picking up an LPFM from Sacramento and 95.7 from Redding (instead of the normal KGMZ out of the Bay) so that probably made it an easier catch than usual.

Program test authority was filed for a few days ago, which historically means a station has built its CP per it's specified parameters and is operating at half power from its licensed site. Nowhere do I see an STA to operate from anywhere else. and theyve filed for a license to cover, which means they are operating as they should be from where they should be

95.7 KALF is 40 miles south of Redding, its licensed to Red Bluff.

Before last month, KCBP had been operating from a much smaller stick in Westley, and on their original time share schedule. It would barely reach Modesto. (The other half of the time share never got built.)
