Mark Larson back on the air oh my GOD..another conservative talk show..I am conservative but am burned out on talk shows they are so predictable as what they will say......make the Q an oldies station again :'(

and in stereo. The signal killed .... and I have an AM Stereo Sony Receiver.

Although I appreciate the Q's "alternative roster" of talk hosts, I agree that there's certainly a glut of flapping lips on the AM band. A little music (that isn't ranchera or conjunto) on AM would be a nice change.

Occasionally I'll tune into KKSM's 1320 feed, but the audio quality of the signal is so horrible that I'm usually out pretty fast - terrible processing, a persistant AC hum in the audio, frequent audible overmodulation. Who's engineering that 500-watt flamethrower these days?

Put standards back on like the old KPOP or The Fabulous 690 did or what KSPA is doing now.

I live a couple miles from their transmitter and have had the same experience. I worked at the station in 1971-72 when it was KUDE and I recall that we had no signal to the east so maybe no one at Palomar College has actually ever heard the station over the air: it probably sounds great on the studio monitors.

I can assure you that no one listens to the air feed in the KKSM studios. Look at their pattern...the college is in the middle of a dead zone.

That's true - the main lobe is beautifully situated to serve any ships that might be sailing off the coast :D

Bob - Do you remember Gene Owsley? Bruce Brown? And our buddy, Lyle Richardson?

Yes Lyle was the GM: I was hired in 1971 by PD Ted Brown and I know his dad had worked there: was he Bruce Brown? One of the afternoon jocks when I was there was Art Bell.

And then there was "The Croaker." There's a story to tell on your first date. "Yeah baby. I'm the Croaker." Sure. Nice ta meet ya'. Later dood.

I guess they need to switch their DA pattern to Verizon. ;)

(But the washroom towels will still be scratchy!)

Art Bell called 1320 home once ... and there's something that Ken Kramer should do, a bit about San Diego radio ....

I've got a bunch of B&W photos I took of him in the control room interviewing Maureen McCormick of the Brady Bunch.

Bob, can you scan and send? North of Escondido you get 1320 from Palm Springs AND Oceanside.

Ken Kramer's show was cancelled about two months ago. I spoke to him and he was very unhappy about it.

"Stay tuned."

yes! How unfortunate. It remains a treasure. He spoke about the program when on KCBQ a few weeks ago. Ken owns the rights to the title; and hopes to be back on the radio w/pictures area very soon. I will "stay tuned" on that one.

Ken's Facebook page is a must stop as well; very comical. ".... and that's about San Diego".

Yeah, that was Ted's dad. I grew up right next to Ted and his brother Terry, over the hill next to Buddy Todd Park. Used to go diving in their dumpster for 45s ;D
