KCJJ Keeps Gabby!!!!!

Following a narrow vote of 36-29, for which requirements resembled Jim Crow laws -- in this case, no one without internet was allowed to vote, Gabby was retained as a radio personality for "Suter on Sports". Congratulations to Gabby, and I applaud Owner/Programming Director Steve Soboroff, Owner/General Manager Thomas Michael Suter, and News Director Tommy Lang(enberg) for their willingness to listen to the votes of listeners, even if they do discriminate against those without internet. Stay tuned to KCJJ! I learned from an anonymous tip that they "would hire Roy (Justis) in a second". Remember friends, listeners make much better consultants than bozos who have no idea what the Coralville/Iowa City/North Liberty market demands.

Gabby won't die!

I feel like playing Ja Rule's "The Rule Won't Die" and substituting "Gab-by" for "The Rule" in the song. What a great theme song that would be for my old friend Gabby!

Who cares? It's a tired old bit done by a tired old DJ on a tired old station. The only thing good about KCJJ is Don and Mike and they will be gone in less than 2 years.

Despite Captain Steve's request that listeners stop posting due to the fact that it insights peers to make fun of KCJJ, I will tell you that Soboroff's marketing strategies and the ability to turn a mundane topic into a controversial issue pushes him well beyond the capabilities of Don & Mike or any so-called popular DJ. Who else carries a plumber chasing a tornado on the air? This is great radio, people. Never underestimate the power of a couple of jokesters and an 10,000 watt AM station in the middle of a cornfield.

I can't stand the Gabby character. I work for a company that advertises on KCJJ and I turn to a different station or listen to CD's whenever Gabby comes on, whcih is just about every day.

Captain Steve is really going off about this whole Scanlon farm thing. Does he not realize the real reason people want to live in North Liberty rather than Coralville? They want to be able to park on the streets, for which they pay taxes, between 2 and 6 a.m. :D It's as simple as that.

As far as pharmaceuticals not wanting to cure cancer, I'm sure there is some obscure evidence to suggest just that. However, The University of Iowa alone sponsors many studies to cure cancer. In fact, they have been working on the whole HPV link to cervical cancer issue for quite some time. I'm sure companies like Phillip Morris also would like to see a cure for all cancer as well; they might be able to sell a lot more tobacco then.

In terms of this country being full of people who cared for all of the humanity from the beginning, I must, for once, question Mr. Soboroff's logic. ??? Ask a fellow African-American whose ancestors were slaves or Native American whose ancestors walked the Trail of Tears if he or she believes the country had the best interest in all of humanity from the beginning. We may try to be in that place now, but I just cannot stomach the thought that owning slaves or pushing people from their homes in Florida to Oklahoma is in the best interest of all.

Still, Soboroff always brings his A-game when it comes to arguing with callers, and I continue to think it's great radio. Keep up the good work, Steve & Tommy!

As a daily listener to the "Big Show" I would really like to see "Ole Gabby" stick with the police reports and away from Tom Suter Sports report.
Just a huge sports fan and always enjoy Tom thoughts.

It looks as if the election results send a clear mandate to Gabby that his politics are out of step with mainstream society in eastern Iowa.

Time for the old russler to saddle up and ride off into the western horizon...preferrably off a cliff.

Stupid Don & Mike, Ed Schultz, Fantasy Congress, and the Downfall of WKBF

Steve is wondering what to do if Don & Mike go off the air. As far as I'm concerned, their exit could come none too soon. Personally, if Steve doesn't hire a local personality, like the Neuzils who already have their very own Sunday morning Air America show, I say that Ed Schultz would be a great addition. Schultz -- who is fortunately independent of Air America -- was the only real talent on WKBF anyway. He's definitely the working person's Democrat, as opposed to a hippie, slacker Democrat!

Regarding politics, you should check out http://www.fantasycongress.com . It's outstanding! It's like fantasy football, except you pick which crooks will author and pass bills.

WKBF was sold to a Christian radio company. How unfortunate! It seems my house is worth more than the station, so we all know that Soboroff's hosue is worth more.... http://www.qctimes.com/articles/2006/10/20/news/business/doc4538500780568379920871.txt
