KCKC new Bob FM teasers

It seems like in between Christmas songs, there's a jingle for "I Want a New Drug" with "Bob" intertwined. Might be a smart move to switch to Adult Hits...Steel City has a successful one in Pittsburgh and KCKC has straddled the line pretty close, though I wonder why they just didn't keep the name KC102.1 and merge to Adult Hits.

Adult hits is not easy to program. If you don’t know what you’re doing, it sounds like a massive train wreck. People trying to copy Jack at the local level 20 years ago found that out the hard way. Most of them ended up in the unemployment line, at least temporarily. Plus, as you mention, Steel City already works with the company that programs Bob.

If that does end up happening, I'd say we should watch what Cumulus does with 102.5. I can’t imagine Jack and Bob would be able to co-exist long in the same market, and a full market signal should win that battle in a walk.

It looks like 9 a.m. tomorrow is the switch over. It seems like KC 102.1 was always a hybrid between AC and Adult Hits...now they will fully move to Adult Hits. I wonder if they could have kept the "KC 102.1" name and moved it to the Adult Hits panel? I also wonder if they will keep doing Christmas, but maybe they'll move that to Q104.

I didn't catch the time. I just heard "new era of Kansas City radio begins tomorrow" in between songs.

I don't like Christmas music, but it's good business, and I expect KCKC will continue to program it in the future.

I refuse to pay for Netflix, and my girlfriend works in a hospital and, thus, doesn't get holidays off unless they fall on her regular rotation. I couldn't borrow her account since she would be using it at work. So, I decided to drive the couple hours to KC and watch the game at a friend's house. I can only take so much Christmas music and only tuned in for a couple bursts of about 10 minutes each.

I know it's legal on the Missouri side, but I don't think you've been hitting the wacky tobacky. I didn't hear any references to Bob, but I did hear, "Did you love KY102? Do you miss The Buzz? Or do you remember when we were Star? Wouldn't it be great to have a station that sounds like all three? Listen tomorrow morning." About the only programming that would fit that bill is adult hits. So, you would seem to be right. Some derivative of that would seem to be coming.

I also heard the "new era of Kansas City radio" promo The Rob mentioned.

That promo I haven't heard. Bob promos were definitely earlier last week. Honestly, all they needed to do was tweak their playlist a little bit from pre-Christmas to get that sound. I don't think any other "AC" played Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden or Daughter by Pearl Jam...they were pretty close already.

Well, they need to do something. The ratings are not that great. Seem to be at a 3 share or less in 6 +. All the big signal FM's do better.

After segueing out of Mariah’s ‘All I Want…’, KC rolled into a production piece related to birth, then ‘Bob’ launched with Milli Vanilli. Happened just a little after 9 a.m.

The girlfriend and I got up just-in-time to hear the launch of Bob. Didn’t hear the end of KC102.1, but we did manage to hear the launch. Both of us were underwhelmed. Launching with Milli Vanilli? At least make it “Blame It On The Rain!”

I wonder what Cumulus is going to do with 102.5…
Maybe nothing. Bob sounds a lot closer to 94.9 KCMO in sound and presentation. Usually AC is more focused/conventional sounding, but in this case, when they flipped to Adult Hits, it's the opposite. Jack FM has more of a rock sound, while this leans a lot more classic hits.

I'm sure the Buzz and KY loyalists will be very impressed.
There hasn't been a form of "KY", 99.7 or 102.1, in Kansas City for almost 17 years. The original KY-102 went away more than 27 years ago, unfortunately after I moved from Kansas City. Appealing to KY-102 or 99.7 listeners would mean aiming at 55+. The very mention of "KY" seemed a throwaway.

Eagle Radio brought back KY102 on KYSJ 102.5/1270 in St. Joseph a few years ago. They used to have Dick Wilson and someone else doing middays but that changed sometime this year. 1270 barely comes in in the KC area though and 102.5 is overshadowed by Jack FM

That means Kansas City is now one of the largest markets with no AC station. That sort of applies to Minneapolis as well. Cumulus has a trimulcast of Soft AC on three low powered FM stations. But the Twin Cities and now Kansas City have no mainstream Adult Contemporary station.

It's pretty strange. Maybe 107.7 in Topeka could move to 107.3 to fill the void? I actually expected another station to fill the void before and compete with KCKC during its recent AC years and be a more conventional AC for the market.

107.7 was going to move in to KC around 20+ years ago, but it never actually happened. This site gives more info:
