KCLE 1140 Cleburne changes plans

Actually it happened a while back, but I haven't seen anybody commenting on it. Remember the plan that had KCLE moving to 1110 with a power increase to 18,000 watts as a daytime only? KJSA Mineral Wells would have moved to suburban Minneapolis MN (yes, for real) in the master plan, and KEOR up in Atoka OK would switch to 1120 and move to Catoosa OK (near Tulsa) to clear the way for the whole deal. Somehow I have to believe that a new frequency for KJSA (say, 1140?) could have been found closer to home, but I suspect that the whole idea maybe included clearing the way for possible future changes in the pattern of 1160, since they had to tuck it in toward Cleburne.

Okay, the KEOR move to Catoosa was recently approved and they got a construction permit. Not so with KCLE and KJSA, who simultaneously had their applications nullified and replaced with the following proposal: KCLE stays on 1140 but increases their power to 3500 watts day and night, and KJSA switches from 1120 to 1110, kicking their power up from 250 to 20,000 watts but still as a daytimer.

As of now I haven't seen the proposed patterns, but I'd imagine that KCLE would see little change in their coverage while KJSA would slam a pretty decent signal into the western half of DFW.

You would think that KCLE on 1140 might be able to loosen up the pattern towards the northeast somewhat, now that the old 1150 in Dallas has moved up 10kHz. But it is a similar issue to KHFX 1460, which has to stay away from the 1440 and 1480 in Dallas County. I guess the FCC is still squeamish about 20kHz separation.

The KJSA plan for 20kw on 1110 is intriguing. It couldn't go south or southeast, due to KTEK in the Houston market, which has a pronounced E-W pattern. And it also would have to stay away from KYKK Humble City, New Mexico, which reaches well into West Texas. KJSA might wind up with a very tight lobe heading east, which would boom into DFW.

I really don't know what kind of signal they'll wind up with, since the part of the FCC site that contains application info appears to be down.
I'm a little surprised they didn't go with 1120, except that another daytime concern would be KWKH 1130 Shreveport, and nighttime operation would be impossible because of KMOX 1120 St. Louis. And any meaningful nighttime operation on 1110 would probably be out of the question too, due to co-channel KFAB Omaha, which comes booming in.

20,000 watts from Mineral Wells...that outghta SLAM into Fort Worth and Dallas just fine....
The real problem with all the move-ins though is the same old problem. OK, now you have a decent signal in Dallas, now what the heck are ya gonna put on it??!!

By the way KCLE went for $400K and KJSA sold for less than $200K, both purchased by Moss/Marti

I was able to see the proposed pattern for KCLE and it shows a basic east-west pattern, purportedly reducing the "grandfathered overlap" with co-channel KRMP Oklahoma City, which dates back several years when KCLE and KJSA swapped frequencies. The proposed pattern would replace what's now a NNW-SSE alignment and would provide a lot better coverage of Johnson County as a whole.

I still haven't really seen the proposed 20,000 watt pattern for KJSA. From what I can see the contours section shows co-channel and adjacent channels that relate more to the KCLE proposal and depict only the current 250-watt coverage for KJSA. Looks like something is missing in the application or I really need new glasses...

It's available through the "AM Query" part of the FCC site. Click on a particular station and you can get the info you're looking for by scrolling down to "application list." Display the application and select what part of the exhibits you want to see.

The particular pattern info for KCLE can be found at the following link:
