Is this the same KCLI that was licensed to Clinton? That was the second station I worked at (first full time) back in 1983-84. Worked for Max Maxey, who owned it at the time. It was country when I was a kid and then it became CHR so I jumped on it. Lots of gawd-awful radio in those days. Looking back I'm not even sure why they let me on!
Tod Bruner and I did the "Bob & Tod" morning show for a while, actually spinning vinyl. All we did was make fun of each other for 3 hours. It was truly awful. But it was kinda cool for to be a teenage disc jockey with studios on main street in a town famous for "dragging main". I would take a 50 foot mic cable and literally walk outside during breaks and interview kids through their car windows. That part was pretty fun, small town local radio.
I remember Max creating the positioner "Clinton's Maximum Hits". No ego there!
Of course we all did everything back then- made the toned automation tapes for the satellite hours, did play by play, news, storm chasing, whatever... I do not remember ever being taught anything- we just sort of figured it out as we went... good times.
Sorry for the meandering- just seeing the calls brought back memories!
Bob
